We were able to get some extra photos through the ship's WiFi system. It's so nice that they take pictures and upload them to the ship's servers so we can select our favorites. And since we're in a suite class, we get to enjoy all of them!
We had a bad case of the giggles!
"Do not call me Giggles but also, do not call me late for dinner!"
She fits perfectly on my lap!
Goochy goochy!
I had such a fun time with Mary today! She surprised me by ordering some really unique spa treatments. I even got a manicure, which was amazing! I just hope no one finds out about it, haha.
She tried to get me a head transplant but alas, no luck!
"Guess what you are getting now?"
After a long morning, we finally made it to our hideaway on the 18th floor. As we settled in, we couldn't help but be mesmerized by the beautiful sea view from our window. It's hard to believe that we still have five more days on this ship, but we're looking forward to taking our time and enjoying the journey back to LA.
The entrance to our sanctuary, thank you Mr. Skywalker!
We can't stay long as we have business to do a 11:00 am!
We had such an amazing experience on the ship today! Because of Mary's services as a doctor, the Captain arranged for us to get a "real" engine room tour with the Chief Engineer. We met at the Medical Center and visited for a few minutes before heading through the "Crew Only" doors into M1, the crews highway leading from the bow to the stern.
We even got to see the Doctor's stateroom stateroom! It was such a great opportunity to learn more about the ship and its inner workings. I feel so grateful for the chance to have had this experience.
What's up doc?
We had a great time today! We walked to the Chief Engineer's office and met his direct reports. It was really interesting to hear about their different roles and responsibilities. After that, we spent about 45 minutes with the Chief Engineer himself, asking him questions and talking about our careers. He's a really nice guy and it was great getting to know him better.
Towards the end of our meeting, he didn't just pass us off to someone else - he personally took us on a tour of the facility! It was really cool to see everything up close and get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on here. Overall, it was a really great experience and we learned a lot.
His family was on board for this cruise!
Did You Know? - A chief engineer is ultimately responsible for all operations and maintenance that has to do with any and all engineering equipment throughout the entire ship, and supervises all other engineering officer and engine ratings within the department.
Computers everywhere; they have really made a difference in running the ship!
Did You Know? - A chief engineer, commonly referred to as "ChEng" or "Chief", is the most senior high-grade licensed mariner (engine officer) of an engine department on a ship, typically a merchant ship, and holds overall leadership and the responsibility of that department.
Chief engineer's rank is equivalent to the rank of a ship's captain. As a person who holds one of the most senior roles on the ship, they must have excellent communication and leadership skills.
They will be expected to regularly work alongside other crew members and external consultants, and most importantly, provide guidance to their team.
To be a chief engineer, an engineer must attain a chief engineer's license appropriate to the tonnage, power rating, and type of ship that they are employed on. A chief engineer is ultimately responsible for all operations and maintenance that has to do with any and all engineering equipment throughout the entire ship, and supervises all other engineering officer and engine ratings within the department.
This gangway runs the entire length of the ship; almost 900 feet long!
Did You Know? - On newer cruise ships, engine rooms are found on the aft of the ship and on the lower decks. They are not fully at the back but closer to mid-ship. Regardless of the ship's size and type of engine, engines are extremely loud.
The Di Vinci Dining Room was excellent!
No! It's not what you think. I can understand why she would want to 'fix' my face, especially since I was born with the double-ugly curse.
The suggestion of a shave and hot towels seems a bit strange. However, I communicated my boundaries in a calm and assertive manner by saying, "Yes, Dear!".
Getting mad might not be the best solution, but finding a way to address the situation and make your feelings known is definitely a step in the right direction."
I felt for the technician (notice I did NOT say beautician). He has a massive undertaking ahead of him!
"Now what??"
Him: "This is going to be a lot tougher than I thought!"
"Yes, I also would start out by putting a bag over my head!"
Good use for a towel!
"Damn, his wrinkles have wrinkles!"
Meanwhile, two chairs down!
Look at all those tools!
"It's going to cost what to fix him???"
Delicious salads; how do they keep everything so fresh?
We returned to the room before dinner (which is one hour away)
We went shopping but neither of us are shoppers!
Ah ha, caught with bread!!
One piece of bread will be OK
Much better steaks here than on the mainland!
Dr. Mary was recognized by the Captain!
We went dancing!
Awards to those who have traveled most!
Mary and I were exhausted, so we decided to call it an early night and spent the evening in our stateroom. We watched a movie and enjoyed some quality time together. Tomorrow, we are sailing towards a big storm, but we are ready to face whatever comes our way. We are looking forward to another day at sea and can't wait to see what adventures await us.
