Page 7 Wednesday 8/9/2023 - Almost There!
Good morning! It's an early start to the day, but the sight of the sun rising over the ocean makes it all worth it. The water is calm and peaceful, and I can't wait to see what adventures await us today. Let's make the most of this beautiful day at sea!
Today marks the fifth day of our journey across the vast ocean. (The first "day" was leaving San Pedro?) We're finally getting used to the ship and all its intricacies. Our mornings start early as we watch the breathtaking sunrise while sipping on our steaming cups of coffee.
The daily list of activities is always exciting, and we carefully choose which ones we want to participate in from the wide range of options available to us.
Sunrise 5:45 am and we were there!
Did You Know? - The Science Of Sunrises Fun Facts - W hen the sun is low on the horizon during sunrises and sunsets, the sunlight travels through more of the atmosphere. Shorter wavelength colors (blues and violets) get scattered out. This leaves more of the longer wavelength colors like yellow, orange, and red. This is why sunrises often take on such colors.
Here it comes! Synonyms: dawn, daybreak, break of day, daylight
The sun jumps right out of the ocean and the day lights up quickly!
It's like magic! The first recorded instance of sunrise being used to measure time was in ancient Egypt, around 2500 BC.
The Shero declares sunrise at 5:46 am! The first rays of the sun that reach the Earth's surface are called the "golden hour" because they cast a golden light.
A little telephoto helps! Sunrise is the time of day when the Earth's atmosphere is most stable and calm.
The ship is so big, we decided to get assistance from the map before wandering off.
Mary has it figured out!
The Ship's Doctor called me this morning with some exciting news. Apparently, they found a brand new eye examination machine in the storage area that has never been used before. Mary was thrilled to hear about it since she's been wanting to do a full exam. Mary even taught the rest of the staff how to use it and bought a book to help them out in case something like this happens again. It's great to see everyone coming together to make sure all the necessary equipment is available for the patients. The Princess team is amazing.
Did You Know? - The Slit Lamp is a microscope with a bright light used during an eye exam. It gives your ophthalmologist a closer look at the different structures at the front of the eye and inside the eye. It's a key tool in determining the health of your eyes and detecting eye disease.
Mary gets the slit lamp machine ready for the exam.
The Doctor's office is quite nice for a ship 1,000 miles from land!
"He will be here anytime now!"
We had to check on some things at Passenger Services Counter. Everything went well and we were on our way to breakfast!
We checked and we are going the right direction!
We decided to take the scenic outdoor route to grab breakfast this morning. It was nice to get some fresh air and stretch our legs before heading down to the sixth floor.
On our way to breakfast, we stopped at the pool to admire the decor. BTW, the pool is fresh water, not sea water!!
Mary loved the ceramic displays on the wall so we stopped to take a picture.
The camera has a special mode that takes only the prettiest part of a picture in color!
After breakfast we made our way forward to the 16th floor and did our couples massage. A couples massage is a relaxing body partner massage with healing purposes, depending on the clients' speciality chosen. Its purpose is to create a peaceful environment to balance people's bodies, minds and energies, regardless of the physiotherapy or aesthetic treatments they choose.
We were done in about an hour and it was time to go relax on the 18th floor at the stern of the ship, The Skywalker Lounge!
Hot music and cool cocktails set to a DJ spinning popular club tunes is the ideal setting for a night of dancing. Gleaming, ultra modern and ultra cool, this hot spot invites a little stargazing while the colorful neon dance floor invites everyone to get up and boogie down. Boasting panoramic views from its vantage point 15 decks above the sea, it's the perfect place for dancing and socializing.
However, in the morning and afternoon it is an amazing place to escape from the crowds which tend to be at the pools or grazing the buffets!
Books in hand; drinks in place; time for a nap!
Sad book, sad face!
I decided to venture downstairs and grab a few treats from the buffet. As it was already past the lunch hour, the rhinos and elephants were snoozing at their table, patiently waiting for the aroma of some fresh afternoon snacks.
There were a few Hyena's cruising the buffet tables looking for any scraps that may be available.
I did find one interesting buffet area and it was called "Destinations" They had three different Indian selections which meant spicy! I found my fix!!
Meatballs and some fruit kept us filled until dinner time.
Chomp! Mary offers me goodies.
We met David and Linda the night of the medical emergency; they are very interesting and funny folks who we enjoy spending time with as we progress across the ocean
Linda and David joined us for dinner!
Yes, they were texting each other!
The picture was taken on the 9th and printed on the 10th!
Did someone say shrimp?
The steaks were fabulous!
We laughed and giggled for two hours!
This trip is their 30th wedding anniversary!
We made them promise NOT to sing any more!
Still having fun!
After dinner, Mary and I had the pleasure of catching up with one of the comedians from the show. I have to say, their comedy routine had us in stitches! I couldn't stop laughing, even after it was over. What really impressed me was how they managed to be so hilarious without crossing any lines. It just goes to show how talented they truly are. Without a doubt, it was one of the highlights of the night!
Phew, what a long day it's been! But we can't rest just yet, as we're heading to Hilo tomorrow and need to be prepared. We're getting in a little early to take care of a medical emergency, so we want to make sure we're all set for whatever comes our way. Let's get some rest so we can tackle tomorrow with a clear head!
