Day 4 - Half Way There

No man needs a vacation so much as the person who has just had one. ~Elbert Hubbard

Good morning! Today,  Mary and I got up early and decided to take a look at the photos from yesterday's formal evening.

To our surprise, our pictures were already uploaded to the ship's photo server! We were so happy to be able to download it for "free", as being a member of the Captain's Circle really has its advantages

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Dang, we clean up pretty well!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Dr. Cote, The Ship's New Shero, is looking great!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
We liked getting photos of ourselves; normally it is just a selfie!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Do I feel special or what?

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
The photographer kept asking me to move my head down so the flash would not bounce off my head!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
It was quite an evening.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
We danced until the wee hours which, at our age, is about 9:00 pm!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii

I had an acupuncture appointment at 7:00 am in the spa. OUCH!  It was surprisingly quiet in there at such an early hour, except for the exercise machine area which was a bit busier. Overall, it was a great experience and I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
I was done in about and hour and returned to the room via the grazing fields.

Phew, that was a close call! I was able to grab a few bites of food before those massive hippos and rhinos caught sight of me. It's always a bit terrifying being around such large and powerful creatures, but I couldn't resist the temptation of some tasty morsels. Hopefully they won't come back looking for me!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
I grabbed a few things to munch on before we went to the "formal breakfast! "

I couldn't believe it when I returned and saw that I had ordered room service for breakfast! I completely forgot about it. But once I saw all the delicious food laid out before me, I knew we had to dig in.

There was so much to choose from - fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, croissants...we definitely had our work cut out for us. But with a little teamwork, we managed to finish everything off. It was the perfect start to our day!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Room service came at 8:00 am!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Just checking the texts and emails!

We attended an event where the food carving and decorations were absolutely incredible. The attention to detail and creativity that went into each piece was truly impressive. It's no wonder that this type of artistry is always popular. These guys did an amazing job!

Food decoration is something we use to decorate a dish. The main difference between garnish and decoration is that decoration is entirely a visual component. Decorations do not add flavor to a dish. In general, they are not for consumption. Decorations are mostly used in baked goods like cakes, cupcakes and cake pops.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Very talented people!

Up to the 18th floor to relax. Mary was practicing her Hula moves! It was quite impressive, and I couldn't help but watch in awe. She seemed to be really enjoying herself and even had a smile on her face. It's always nice to see someone doing what they love, especially when it's something as unique as Hula dancing.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Up in the Lounge on the 18th floor, Mary practices her Hula moves!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
I am not sure what she is saying so I will not repeat it!
(It may be, "I need a drink!")

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii

Did You Know? - Hula dancing originated in the Hawaiian Islands as a way to honor chiefs or leaders. The dance was also performed in a religious context to honor gods and goddesses. Because of this, hula dancing was seen as a sacred rite, and was treated seriously by the dancers - any mistakes made could result in bad luck.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
The whole ship was swaying!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii

We went to a wine tasting event hosted by Princess and it was pretty good. However, there were so many people that it became difficult to hear the sommelier due to the rude ones talking loudly. I think it would be better if the event was done in smaller groups, maybe around twenty people, so that we can actually listen and learn from the sommelier. Overall, it was still a nice experience.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
An ocean of glasses

How to Taste Wine in five simple Steps :

  1. See – Look at the appearance of the wine and see what it tells you.
  2. Swirl – Swirl the glass to let aromatic notes come out.
  3. Sniff – Smell the wine and see what scents you can isolate.
  4. Gargle - Loudly to get the flavors
  5. Guzzle - Pour that puppy down as fast as you can, do not spill!

Mary and I are wine enthusiasts and know the more wine we drink, the more enthusiastic we get.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
We even took notes!

Generally we go to step #5 directly! Grab and guzzle!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
The glasses were sparkling.

After wine tasting, we went to the 18th floor and rested. We werefeeling a bit parched and decided to check out the Medallion App's "order a drink" feature. To our delight, it worked flawlessly and we were able to enjoy a refreshing beverage in no time.

Using the magic Medallion, the server found us over in the corder of the Lounge with no troubles.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
We bought the drink package, thank goodness!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Back down to the Fusion Lounge, we danced to pre-recorded music!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
We were alone but that was OK since nobody could see us laughing so much!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Using the locater, we knew we were in the correct spot.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Time for line dancing!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii

The food on board was absolutely fantastic! And what's even better is that they bring out smaller portions. You always have the option to ask for seconds or even thirds if you're feeling particularly hungry, but we found that their technique helped us to come back from my trip having lost a little bit of weight. It wasn't anything drastic, but it definitely made me feel better about ourselves. Overall, we were really impressed with the quality of the food on the voyage.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Dinner time!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Her mad face!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Mary had the Sole served with perfectly done potatoes!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
I went with roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding.

Did You Know? - Yorkshire pudding is a baked pudding made from a batter of eggs, flour, and milk or water. A common British side dish, it is a versatile food that can be served in numerous ways depending on its ingredients, size, and the accompanying components of the meal. As a first course, it can be served with onion gravy.

Again, thanks to the Princess folks for making the desserts an appropriate size. They sweetened the palate without bursting the belts. The presentation, as usual, was exquisite.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Desserts were just fine...

One more visit to the library before we head up to the room!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Mary ran out of books so off to the library we went.

Our on-board text system notified us of another available image. Without delay, we swiftly analyzed the newly added photograph to see if it met our desired criteria. We did good!  It is a keeper!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
We acutally look pretty good for being 150 years old between us!
(Yes, Paul is the older one!!)

As we walked back into the room, I couldn't believe my eyes. Our cabin steward had gone all out, decorating the place with beautiful flowers and elegant decorations. I couldn't help but wonder if the ship's doctor had something to do with it. Maybe she knew how much we needed a pick-me-up after a long day at sea. Regardless, I was grateful for the thoughtful gesture and couldn't wait to enjoy the rest of our cruise.

Mary was so touched when she received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the medical staff to thank her for all of her help. It was such a lovely gesture and truly showed their appreciation. Mary felt grateful to be able to make a positive impact on their lives.

I did however run for the fire extinguisher before Mary began to turn off the power to the candles.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
It was a magnificent display!

The Medical Staff sent another bouquet of flower to tjhe Ship's Shero!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
From the medical staff!

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
...and a bottle of champagne!

I thought "Hail Mary" was a football play but for the rest of the trip when they saw Dr. Mary they would say, "Hail Mary!"

Almost to pretty to disturb but finally we had to remove the swans.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
They were well trained, not a poopie to be found!

The thoughtfullness of the Princess Medical Staff needed ot be recorded.

Day Four, Half Way To Hawaii
Someone is a happy girl!
