Time For The Country Club
Spectacular views from the ballroom
The 2008 Winter Formal was held at the beautiful Mesa Verde Country Club with the Sky Blues providing a wide variety of dance music for the evening.
We had several members and guests not be able to attend this evenings event because of the terrible wild fires in the Anaheim Hills and surrounding areas. Since many of our members are from the area, we saw a lot of cell-phone activity this evening.

Hors D'œuvre Are Served
Did you know: Hors d'oeuvre may be served at the table, as a part of the sit-down meal, or they may be served before sitting at the table. Hors d'oeuvre prior to a meal are either stationary or passed. Stationary hors d'oeuvre are also referred to as "table hors d'oeuvre." Passed hors d'oeuvre are also referred to as "butler-style" or "butlered" or "butler-passed" hors d'oeuvre
Delightful trays of goodies floated around the room!
Paul and Leon discuss the latest in tuxedo fashions (not that we are wearing them!!)
Did You Know? - Black tie is a dress code for semi-formal evening events, and is worn to many types of social functions. For a man, the major component is a black coat, known as dinner jacket (British) or tuxedo (Canada and the U.S.). A woman's corresponding evening dress ranges from a conservative cocktail dress to the long evening gown, determined by current fashion, local custom, and the occasion's time

The Evening Hot Spot... The Bar!
Did You Know? - The term "bar" is derived from the specialized counter on which drinks are served and is a synecdoche applied to the whole of the drinking establishment. The "back bar" or "gantry" is a set of shelves of glasses and bottles behind that counter. In some bars, the gantry is elaborately decorated with woodwork, etched glass, mirrors, and lights. When food is served elsewhere in the establishment, it may also be ordered and eaten at the bar.
Serious pre-ordering visiting goes on in this line!

Is There A Doctor In The House??
Duh! Mary tries to hide in the foyer but she was caught!
Did You Know?-Usually a foyer is a large, specially designed hall, but sometimes it is a corridor surrounding the main hall. It is furnished and big enough to enable spectators to stroll, get together and rest. Foyers are commonly adorned with art works, permanent or temporary exhibitions related to the activity of the institution, and a refreshment room or buffet. Moreover, the foyer can be the main place of some events such as vernissage, meetings with the artists, actors' benefit, etc
Kind of looks like a penguin convention, huh?
The Band Is Off And Running
Did You Know? - A musical ensemble is a group of two or more musicians who perform instrumental or vocal music. In each musical style or genre, different norms have developed for the sizes and composition of different ensembles, and for the repertoire of songs or musical works that these ensembles perform.

Dinner Is Served Beginning With Salad
Did You Know?- The word "salad" comes from the French salade of the same meaning, which in turn is from the Latin salata, "salty", from sal, "salt". The diarist John Evelyn wrote a book on salads, Acetaria: A Discourse on Sallets (1699), that describes the new salad greens like "sellery" (celery), coming out of Italy and the Netherlands.

The phrase is typically attributed to Milton's poem L'Allegro, but a somewhat similar phrase appears in Shakespeare's The Tempest. The phrase in this modern usage comes from the lyrics of the song The Sidewalks of New York. The following chronological list outlines a few notable usages of this and similar sounding phrases.
