Memories Of Christmas Past!
Christmas as a kid in the late 1940's and early 1950s was fantastic. The war was over the products we everywhere! We had not been corrupted by television yet so we enjoyed the simple toys.. Wow! What memories! Times were great!
Mom and dad had been married 20+ years before I came along... so they had a second childhood! It helped since dad bought toys for a dime store chain!
See some of the things I remember most about Christmas (other than the warm feeling of being close to family and friends and the friendships):
- Aluminum Trees?
- Apollo 8, I Was There!
- Boys And Girls 50s Wishbooks
- Christmas Eve
- Going To Pick Up Grandpa
- Christmas Seals 1950
- Christmas During Those Fabulous Fifties
- The Korean War
- My Choo Choo
- New Albums
- Santa Came To Say
- The Tree
The Past
So I can remember Christmas Dinner... At my Aunts Opals little house in Paramount California! It was about 500 sq feet but had a huge front yard!
Sometimes I can smell the smells emanating from that tiny little kitchen were Mom, Aunt Edith, Aunt Opal, Aunt Alma would work all morning to fix a super meal! Fancy - NO! Plenty - YES!
The pies that came form those hands were beyond description! The stuffing would carry you away!
And the men... in those days it was not TV. Mostly radio listening to the football games. Croquet in the front yard was the thing! Perhaps shuffle board on the driveway
And us cousins... Claudia Parchman and myself would play until we dropped!
