Mary and Paul arrived at the Halloween Ball at the Santa Ana Elks ready to impress, confuse, and possibly start an international incident. Paul was dressed in a flashy Zoot Suit, complete with wide lapels, a long coat, and enough confidence to light up the dance floor. Mary wore a German dirndl and looked like she might serve bratwurst, lead a polka, or win a costume prize—all before dessert.
They found a table with the perfect view and sat down to watch the parade of costumes. There were witches, pirates, vampires, skeletons, and one man dressed as a giant taco who had trouble sitting down. Donna and Bob joined them, followed by Vicky and Jim, who claimed they were "mysterious strangers," though everyone recognized them immediately.
Then Robin and Michele, Mary and Paul's daughters, appeared and scared them half to death—not because of their costumes, but because they said, "We've been watching you dance." Paul straightened his Zoot Suit and said, "Then you witnessed greatness." Mary laughed and said, "No, they witnessed a medical emergency with rhythm."
The music started, and Paul pulled Mary onto the dance floor. He tried a fancy spin, but his long coat caught on a chair, nearly taking Bob's drink, Donna's purse, and the taco man with him.
Everyone laughed so hard even the vampire lost his fangs. It was spooky, silly, and perfectly scary—but the scariest part was Paul promising to dance again next year.
