You have seen the garden come to life from a dead-patch of grass on the South-40 to a ready-to-go hotbed of gardening activity. So it is time to make the garden work!
The New Garden Gets Down To Work! Winter Garden 2022!
The soil was in but first we needed to turn it and make sure we had straw for the mulch. Turning it means digging down a foot and adding amendments and perlite; we did it by hand and with the electric rototiller!
This little puppy is eight years old and going strong!
Mary and I made many trips to the local nurseries and collected several types of fruits and veggies such as strawberries, black berries, raspberries, Swiss chard, beets, broccoli, cabbage, many types of pears, onions, and other "winter vegetables".
This first garden might be "iffy" since the soil is brand new and the analysis is yet to be made. We did add some typical nutrients along with the perlite so we will watch and see what happens.
Decisions Decisions!
The First Planting Was On 10/23/2022
We got a few plants at Home Depot, tilled the soil, added some soil amendments, and in-they-went. Mary did the honors and found it easy to do!
Two blackberries and an Ollaberry!
We planted a few more in the first standalone planter.
The Next Planting Was November 11th 2022 When We Had Straw For Mulch!
We are talking serious gardening now with mulching. We planted strawberries, cabbage, broccoli, onions, Swiss chard, and other items completing the planting with an inch or so of straw!
The garden is starting to come alive
Look at them, snuggled in their beds!
We needed peas and with peas, they need something to climb on!
Now we are talking garden!
November 11th We Stepped Up Our Game! H&H Here We Come!
Mary has a truck load!
Marry allowed me to pick one (and only one) plant!
(When I got the giant Venus Flytrap, we allowed me more)
Mary loves flowers so we put in Sweat Peas at the end of the large bed.
We drank the champagne instead of hitting it on the sign!
