Heading Out For The Malibu Greek Food And Wine Adventure (1/29/2012)

Ed and Kathy Roberts are joining Herb and Irene and us this time so we planned to leave about 10:30 and head north to Long Beach to pick up Herb and Irene before heading to Malibu! The weather forecast is excellent for today! A high of 65 and not a cloud in the forecast... All went well and we arrived in Malibut about 11:45!

Did You Know? - Malibu (pronounced /?m?l?bu?/) is an affluent, beachfront city in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,645. Malibu consists of a 21-mile (34 km) strip of prime Pacific coastline. The community is famous for its warm, sandy beaches, and for being the home of many Hollywood movie stars and others associated with the entertainment industry. Signs around the city proclaim "27 miles of scenic beauty", referring to Malibu's original length of 27 miles (43 km) before the city was incorporated in 1991.

Did You Know? - State Route 1 (SR 1), more often called Highway 1, is a state highway that runs along much of the Pacific coast of the U.S. state of California. It is famous for running along some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, leading to its designation as an All-American Road.

Highway 1 does not run over the entire Pacific coastline of California. It starts at Interstate 5 (I-5) near Dana Point in Orange County and runs north to U.S. Highway 101 (US 101) near Leggett in Mendocino County. Highway 1 also at times runs concurrently with US 101, most notably through a 54-mile (87 km) stretch in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, and across the Golden Gate Bridge. It also serves as a scenic alternative in several locations; and a major thoroughfare in the Greater Los Angeles Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and other coastal urban areas along its route. friends

How To Begin Lunch? Saganaki Of Course??? friends
Flaming cheese please....

Did You Know? - Saganaki (Greek ????????, literally little frying pan) refers to various dishes prepared in Greek cuisine and is named after the single-serving frying pan in which it is cooked.

One popular example is an appetizer of pan-seared cheese. The cheese used in saganaki cheese is usually kefalograviera, kasseri, kefalotyri, or sheep's milk feta cheese. Regional variations include the use of formaella cheese in Arachova and halloumi cheese in Cyprus. The cheese is melted in a small frying pan until it is bubbling and generally served with lemon juice and pepper. It is eaten with bread.

Other dishes that are traditionally cooked in the pan include shrimp saganaki (Greek ??????? ????????), and mussels saganaki (Greek ????? ????????), which are typically feta-based and include a spicy tomato sauce.

In many United States, Canadian and Australian restaurants, after being fried, the saganaki cheese is flamb?ed at the table (typically with a shout of "opa!"), and the flames then extinguished with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. This is called "flaming saganaki" and apparently originated in 1968 at The Parthenon restaurant in Chicago's Greektown, based on the suggestion of a customer to owner Chris Liakouras.
