Jam session 2/28/2010

Did you know? - A jam session is a musical act where musicians gather and play (or simply "jam") without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements; improvisation. Jam sessions are often used to develop new material, find suitable arrangements, or simply as a social gathering and communal practice session. Jam sessions may be based upon existing songs or forms, may be loosely based on an agreed chord progression or chart suggested by one participant, or may be wholly improvisational. Jam sessions can range from very loose gatherings of amateurs to sophisticated improvised recording sessions intended to be edited and released to the public.

Oh oh!  Jim is catching heck!

Did you know? - The traditionally held-to-be "proper" way to drink from a wine glass, especially when drinking white or otherwise chilled wine, is to grasp it by the stem. A common misconception is that the purpose of doing so is that the temperature of the wine may be affected by body heat when holding the glass. In actuality, body heat has no measurable effect on the wine's temperature. The surrounding air is actually the only factor that affects wine temperature in the glass. This misconception comes from watching wine drinkers examine the color and clarity of wine by holding it by the stem.

Ice cubes anyone?

Did you know? - O'Shea Jackson (born June 15, 1969), better known by his stage name Ice Cube, is an American rapper, actor, screenwriter, and producer. He began his career as a member of the rap group N.W.A along with group leader Eazy-E, and later built a successful solo career in music and cinema.

He married Kimberly Woodruff, with whom he has four children, in 1992. From the mid-1990s onwards, Jackson focused on acting, and his musical output has slowed down considerably. He remains one of the most visible West Coast rappers, having helped originate gangsta rap.

Calories anyone?

Did you know? - The calorie is a pre-SI metric unit of energy. The unit was first defined by Professor Nicolas Clément in 1824 as a unit of heat. This definition entered French and English dictionaries between 1841 and 1867.[1] In most fields its use is archaic, having been replaced by the SI unit of energy, the joule. However, in many countries it remains in common use as a unit of food energy. The kilocalorie per mole remains in use in computational chemistry and molecular spectroscopy.

Definitions vary but are all based on the specific heat capacity of water. The gram calorie, approximately 4.2 J, is based on one gram of water. The kilogram calorie, equal to one thousand gram calories, is based on one kilogram of water. In the context of nutrition, and especially food labelling, a larger unit is used and referred to interchangeably by the terms calorie (or Calorie) and kilocalorie.
