Reconnecting With Joel
Many many years ago on a school ground far far away Joel and Paul met. It was half a century ago, June 1949 at Shenandoah Elementary School which was years ago.

I guess the connection is still strong because Joel and Paul were best friends for years.... We lived a few blocks apart and our parents knew each other quite well.
As we continued through junior and senior high school we "grew apart".... Joel was the sports guy and Paul the nerd (ROTC, Radio Shop, etc.)
After high school we both went to USC and ran into one another every once in a while.... Then, all quiet for almost fifty years.
We met up again on-line probably via Classmates (http://classmates.com) and began a new dialog. Joel is still in Beverly Hills and Paul is in Rossmoor. Between us we have many kids and grandkids.
It was decided... Time to meet. We decided Irvine was a goof place as Joel works in the area.

Funny Fact: I (Paul) was so anxious to see Joel but haven't seen him in almost 50 years that I kept my eye on the door. The entrance was toward the sun so it was difficult to see and people looked like shadows. Anyway, this fellow came in and I jumped up, ran over and said "Dang, haven't seen you for fifty years" and his reply was "Gee, that was before I was born?" Oops!

Short for Electronic Numerical Integrator And Calculator, the ENIAC was invented by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania and began construction in 1943 and was not completed until 1946. It occupied about 1,800 square feet, used 17,468 vacuum tubes, 15,000 relays, weighing almost 50 tons, uses 200 Kilowatts of electricity, and cost $500,000. While not completed until the end of the World War II, the ENIAC was created to help with the war efforts against German forces. The ENIAC is now being displayed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. In 1996, the U.S. Postal Services released a new stamp commemorating the 50th birthday of the ENIAC.
