Did You Know? - Catlin, A.B. "Buck" July 23, 1918 - September 6, 2016
Fullerton former mayor Allen B. "Buck" Catlin was born July 23, 1918, in New Britain, CT, and graduated from Miami, FL Senior High School in 1936. Following graduation, Buck joined the Navy and was appointed from the fleet to the U.S. Naval Academy graduating in the class of 1942. Throughout World War II, Korean and Cold Wars, Buck served primarily aboard diesel submarines. During his service in the U.S. Submarine Forces, he had five submarine and division commands. He retired with the rank of Commander. Out of the service, Buck moved to California to his wife Bobbie's family home in Fullerton. For over 20 years, Buck taught electronics at Fullerton College, rising to serve as Department Chairman and as President of the college's Faculty Senate. A Fullerton resident since 1961, Buck was extremely active in his community over a period of three decades, serving on multiple clubs, boards and organizations as well as being appointed to the Fullerton Planning Commission and elected to the City Council, culminating in the position as City of Fullerton Mayor. Buck served the city as Councilmember and Mayor for 12 years. Allen B. "Buck" Catlin is survived by his wife Bobbie; children Jim, Jo Dee Jacob and Janny Meyer; their spouses; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 5 - 7 PM at McAulay & Wallace Mortuary, Fullerton. Services will be held on September 17, 2016 10:45 AM at Fullerton Presbyterian Church, followed by a short military interment at Loma Vista Memorial Park.
