Did You Know? - Gourmet /ɡɔrˈmeɪ/ is a cultural ideal associated with the culinary arts of fine food and drink, or haute cuisine, which is characterised by refined, even elaborate preparations and presentations of aesthetically balanced meals of several contrasting, often quite rich courses. The term and its associated practices are usually used positively to describe people of refined taste and passion.

Time to stroll, learn, and laugh

Did You Know? - Centennial Farm is a three-acre working farm at the OC Fair & Event Center created to educate youth about agriculture and its importance to daily life. The Farm is home to fruit and vegetable gardens, livestock, and the Millennium Barn. Children and adults can view pigs, chickens, cattle, goats and more while strolling though gardens of lush vegetation.

The llama needs a dentist

Did You Know About Llamas?

Llamas are incomplete ruminants, with only three stomach compartments.

The average wight is 350 lbs. for an adult.

The most common noise that llamas make is a Hum. Llamas hum to express themselves both when they are happy and stressed out. Mothers also talk to their babies in this way.

Llamas usually live 17-23 years.

Llamas do not generally like to spit. Only llamas that have not been handled properly or have been tormented will spit. After a llama spits cud it walks around with its mouth open to get the taste out of its mouth.

Neat name for Mom.... BUTTERSCOTCH

Did You Know? - Butterscotch is a type of confectionery whose primary ingredients are brown sugar and butter, although other ingredients such as corn syrup, cream, vanilla, and salt are part of some recipes. According to "Housewife's Corner" in an 1848 newspaper, the real recipe for "making Doncaster butterscotch is one pound of butter, one pound of sugar and a quarter of a pound of treacle, boiled together."

Butterscotch is similar to toffee, but for butterscotch the sugar is boiled to the soft crack stage, and not hard crack as with toffee.[2] Butterscotch sauce is often made into a syrup, which is used as a topping for ice cream (particularly sundaes).

OC Fair 2014
The grapes looked great until we got up close...

Did You Know? - Powdery mildew is a common disease on many types of plants. Several powdery mildew fungi cause similar diseases on different plants (such as Podosphaera species on apple and stone fruits; Sphaerotheca species on berries and stone fruits; Erysiphe necator on grapevines.

Powdery mildew fungi generally require moist conditions to release overwintering spores and for those spores to germinate and infect a plant. However, no moisture is needed for the fungus to establish itself and grow after infecting the plant.

Powdery mildews normally do well in warm, Mediterranean-type climates. Thus powdery mildews are more prevalent than many other diseases in California's dry summer and fall seasons.

Dahlia's are a favorite

Did You Know? - What did the Aztecs in Mexico call Dahlias?
The Aztecs cultivated the dahlia, used them as ornamental flowers, for medicine and as tubers to feed their animals. They had many names for the plant, including Acocotli, or water throat because the stems provided an emergency water supply for hunters, Cocoxochitl (pronounced: co-COX-oh-cheetle), which means water pipe, and Chichipatli , bitter medicine.
