Hot rods... Yeah!
1966
Summary: Despite the efforts of a citizens' group to outlaw "hot rod" and "chicken" races, a group of teenagers is preparing for the annual demolition derby. Although he knows the event can be dangerous, a young student decides to enter the race in order to win money for his college education. His chief competitor is a ruthless young driver who has already caused a death during one of the derbies. Learning the student has entered the race, the bully decides to stop him by whatever means necessary. At the preliminaries, the student's friend learns his rival is carrying a gun. Although the friend is run down at an amusement park, he gets word of the gun to the student's girl friend, and a pencil is stuffed into the gun barrel just as the race begins. Attempting to use the weapon, the rival is killed. The student goes on to win the race and the prize money.

The Ford Mustang
Did You Know? - The Ford Mustang is an automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. It was initially based on the platform of the second generation North American Ford Falcon, a compact car. Introduced early on April 17, 1964, and thus dubbed as a "1964½" model by Mustang fans, the 1965 Mustang was the automaker's most successful launch since the Model A. The Mustang has undergone several transformations to its current fifth generation.
The Mustang created the "pony car" class of American automobiles—sports car-like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks —and gave rise to competitors such as GM's Chevrolet Camaro, AMC's Javelin, as well as Chrysler's revamped Plymouth Barracuda and the first generation Dodge Challenger. The Mustang is also credited for inspiring the designs of coupés such as the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri, which were imported to the United States.

57 Chevy....
Did You Know? - The 1957 Chevrolet is a car which was introduced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors in September, 1956. It was available in three series models: the upscale Bel Air, the mid-range "two-ten", and the "one-fifty". A two-door station wagon, the Nomad was produced as a Bel Air model.
An upscale trim option called the "Delray" was available for two-ten 2-door sedans. It is a popular and sought after classic car. These vehicles are often restored to their original condition and sometimes modified.
The car's image has been frequently used in toys, graphics, music, movies and television. The '57 Chevy, as it is often known, is an auto icon.

Did You Know? - A supercharger is an air compressor used to increase the pressure, temperature, and density of air supplied to an internal combustion engine. This compressed air supplies a greater mass of oxygen per cycle of the engine to support combustion than available to a naturally aspirated engine, which makes it possible for more fuel to be burned and more work to be done per cycle, which increases the power produced by the engine.
Power for the supercharger can be provided mechanically by a belt, gear, shaft, or chain connected to the engine's crankshaft. When power is provided by a turbine powered by exhaust gas, a supercharger is known as a turbosupercharger – typically referred to simply as a turbocharger or just turbo. Common usage restricts the term supercharger to mechanically driven units.
Do you remember these
Did You Know? - These are water bags with a burlap covering that you would "Saturate before using" and hang where wind or evaporation could cool the water inside. They were often hung on car radiators in the old days so that the wind passing over them could cool the your drinking water as you drove.
Evaporation is a cooling process. The water molecules that escape the surface of the bag were those that were fast moving. If you remove the fast moving molecules, the ones left behind are slower and, thereby, colder. The faster you remove them the colder the aggregate becomes. Hanging the bag on the front of a fast moving car is a good way to remove them quickly.

The Buick Eight... 1941
Did You Know? - For 1941 the bodywork was again all new, with the front fenders now very closely integrated into the cars overall design. The Estate Wagon migrated from being a Super into the Special lineup. Also new was the 40-A series (the regular Special now being the 40-B), a version on a three inches shorter wheelbase which shared its body with the 1941 Chevrolet. These two series, with a restyle reminiscent of the 1939 Y-Job, continued into the abbreviated 1942 model year.
Production ended on 4 February 1942. WWII stopped the production...

Chevy Nomad...
Did You Know? - The Chevrolet Nomad was a station wagon model made off and on from 1955 to 1972, and a Chevy Van trim package in the late 1970s and early 1980s, produced by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors. The Nomad is best remembered in its two-door 1955–57 form, and was considered a halo model during its three-year production as a two-door station wagon.

Rumble seats
Did You Know? - A rumble seat (American English), dicky seat, dickie seat or dickey seat (British English), also called mother-in-law seat, is an upholstered exterior seat which hinges or otherwise opens out from the rear deck of a pre-World War II automobile, and seats one or more passengers.
An 1899 Century Dictionary describes a rumble as " A seat for servants in the rear of a carriage". Roadster, Coupe and Cabriolet auto body styles were offered with either a luggage compartment or a rumble seat in the deck. Models equipped with a rumble seat were often referred to as a sport coupe or sport roadster.
Rumble seat passengers were essentially seated out in the elements, and received little or no protection from the regular passenger compartment top. Folding tops and side curtains for rumble seats were available for some cars (including the Ford Model A) but never achieved much popularity. Among the last American-built cars with a rumble seat were the 1938 Chevrolet, the 1939 Ford and 1939 Dodge and Plymouth. The last British built car with a dickey seat was the Triumph 2000 Roadster made until 1949.

Remember the drive-in??
Did You Know? - A carhop is a waiter or waitress who brings fast food to people in their cars at drive-in restaurants. Usually car hops work on foot but sometimes use roller skates. The popularity of movies such as American Graffiti and shows like Happy Days created a misconception of carhops as exclusively roller skaters.[citation needed]
The first car hops appeared in 1921 when automobiles were beginning to be a common sight in Dallas, Texas. Two men, a businessman named J.G. Kirby and a physician with the name of R.W. Jackson decided to take advantage that many people owned cars and more were coming. They realized that many of the drivers were also lazy, too lazy in fact to get out of their cars to eat. They opened a restaurant called the Pig Stand which had male carhops from their inception. The A&W corporate website actually claims to have opened the first carhop restaurant in 1923, just two years after The Pig Stand initiated car hops.
The name "carhop" came from the practice of the waitress or waiter jumping up on the running board of a patron rolling into the parking lot. This car hopping showed that this particular car was that servers car, as tips were the main income of these waiters and waitresses. Women replaced male carhops, as during World War II, when most men were in the war, restaurants discovered that a pretty face sold more food.
Now carhops are only featured at a few remaining original drive-in stands and nostalgic fast food establishments. The few remaining drive-ins are mostly in small towns with local ownership. Sonic Drive-In still uses carhops as servers to customers, with over 3,400 restaurants available. There has been a resurgence with some franchises cashing in on the nostalgic aspect and tapping into the memories of the baby boomers.

The Pontiac answer to the Chevy Nomad....
Did You Know? - Safari was a name first applied to Pontiac's version of the 2-door Nomad station wagon. The body style, originally exhibited as a 1954 Chevrolet Corvette Motorama concept car, was shifted to Chevrolet and Pontiac full-size 1955 production vehicles because of the perceived greater sales potential.
After 1959, the name Safari was applied to Pontiac's full-size four-door station wagon vehicles in its Catalina, Executive and Bonneville ranges.

1955 Caddy
Did You Know? - Cadillac /ˈkædɨlæk/ is an American luxury vehicle marque owned by General Motors (GM). Cadillac currently sells vehicles in 37 countries, with its primary market being North America. In 2012, Cadillac's U.S. sales were 149,782.[3] Globally, Cadillac's next largest market is China. The SRX crossover has been Cadillac's best selling model since 2010.
Cadillac is currently the second oldest American automobile manufacturer behind fellow GM marque Buick and is among the oldest automobile brands in the world. Depending on how one chooses to measure, Cadillac is arguably older than Buick. Cadillac was founded in 1902 by Henry Leland, a master mechanic and entrepreneur, who named the company after Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, the founder of the city of Detroit.
The company's crest is based on a coat of arms that Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac had created at the time of his marriage in Quebec in 1687.
General Motors purchased the company in 1909 and within six years, Cadillac had laid the foundation for the modern mass production of automobiles by demonstrating the complete interchangeability of its precision parts while simultaneously establishing itself as America's premier luxury car.
Cadillac introduced technological advances, including full electrical systems, the clashless manual transmission and the steel roof. The brand developed three engines, one of which (the V8 engine) set the standard for the American automotive industry.
Cadillac is the first American car to win the prestigious Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England, having successfully demonstrated the interchangeability of its component parts during a reliability test in 1908; this spawned the firm's slogan "Standard of the World."
It won that trophy a second time, in 1912, for incorporating electric starting and lighting in a production automobile.

Having seen the Seal Beach Car Show pictures AND not wanting to be outdone... He offers the following response!!
"I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the car show pics. Especially Frankie the fawn Boston Terrier.
In a show of solidarity I wanted to pass on this picture of the One-And-Only entry in the Sun City 2013 Concourse 'de Elegance.
This Saturn Station Wagon is owned by Lars and Vivecca McPherson, Sun City residents since its inception in 1964. It has only 1423 miles on the odometer, since the McPhersons are both in their late 90s now and don't really remember they own the car, and THANK GOD they don't drive it.
Except to get it smogged every 2 years!!!
Truly, the car show pics were GRRRRRRREAT!!! I always knew Sue was a rag-top kind of girl!!! That's why she keeps her hair short!!
Take care,
