like pairing my cooking debut with noodles that can overcook if you blink.<\/p>\n<p>We had our coffee and an energy bar before Mary had to get ready for her painting class.\u00a0 Our neighbor will pick Mary up about noon, and I will go fetch her at 3:00 pm so we can get prepared to depart for the Seagerstrom Theater to see &#8220;The Notebook&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>On the way to get Mary, I stopped at DMES Medical Supplies\u00a0 (which turns out to be just down the street on Chapman) and rented a full wheelchair because I knew the walker would NOT work this evening, because it was too far to walk from the restaurant to the theater, the pavement was rough and there were curbs, and it would be a slow process with a lot of unnecessary bumping around.\u00a0 Poppy to the rescue!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_93626\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-93626\" class=\"size-full wp-image-93626\" src=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-007.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-007.jpg 640w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-007-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-007-100x56.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-93626\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This store was adjacent to the Armed Forces Recruiting Center, where Mark (Colleen&#8217;s wonderful husband) was stationed after they got married.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I got to the class around 2:30 pm, just in case Mary&#8217;s back was giving her fits.\u00a0 What Mary did NOT KNOW is that I stopped by and rented a wheelchair because I was worried about her attempting to walk from the Silver Trumpet to the Theater and back using the walker.<\/p>\n<p>Arriving at the Senior Center, I walked in and immediately found a room full of ladies enthusiastically splatter-painting as if it were an Olympic event.<\/p>\n<p>Mary must&#8217;ve been doing PR again, because several of them greeted me with, \u201cHow are you doing?\u201d\u2014apparently, my hospitalizations are now community bulletin-board news.<br \/>\nMary, on the other hand, was clearly feeling great\u2026 because her painting was actually really good.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-93628\" src=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-005_framed.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1229\" height=\"1577\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-005_framed.jpg 1229w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-005_framed-650x834.jpg 650w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-005_framed-117x150.jpg 117w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-005_framed-768x985.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-005_framed-100x128.jpg 100w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2026-02-03-005_framed-1197x1536.jpg 1197w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1229px) 100vw, 1229px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We came home, freshened up, and headed to dinner at The Silver Trumpet adjacent to Seagerstrom Center for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n<p>When we arrived at the restaurant, and I started to get out of the car, I feigned stupidity (an easy task for me!) and told Mary, &#8220;<em>I forgot the walker&#8230; I must have left it in the garage while I was refilling the vehicle&#8217;s drinking water supply<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mary\u2019s expression was priceless\u2014she frowned, pushed herself up out of her seat, built up a full head of steam, and marched toward the back of the car like she was about to file a formal complaint with the universe.<\/p>\n<p>I popped the trunk and wrestled the wheelchair out like it was a tangled-up metal octopus. Mary just stood there cycling through every \u201cA\u201d word in the dictionary\u2014amazed, astonished, astounded, awed, and startled.<\/p>\n<p>And then\u2026 I finally got the big smile.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_93627\" style=\"width: 398px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-93627\" class=\"size-full wp-image-93627\" src=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/pix-1899.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"388\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/pix-1899.jpg 388w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/pix-1899-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2026\/02\/pix-1899-100x101.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-93627\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I tried to get one with flames painted on the side, but alas, all they had was basic black.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Dinner was fantastic\u2014and it&#8217;s always more fun when Jim and Vicky show up to raise the class level (and the volume) of the whole evening!\u00a0 Mary and I had Lamb lollipops, which are individual lamb chops\u2014usually rib chops\u2014that are trimmed and &#8220;French-cut&#8221; is a stage adaptation of the novel (and later film) about Noah and Allie, two young people who fall in love in the 1940s despite differences in class and family pressure pulling them apart.<\/p>\n<p>The play typically frames their relationship across time: you see their romance begin, fracture, and later rekindle, alongside an older couple where one partner is living with memory loss\/dementia.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;notebook&#8221;
