This morning was very different.\u00a0 We have been close to Scout for several days, seeing him slowly fail.\u00a0 This morning, he was huddled up near the fireplace, and for the third day, he could not walk.\u00a0 As usual, he was a happy boy, but there was something different in his eyes.\u00a0 He did not understand why he could no longer walk.<\/p>\n

He watched everything going on around him, but could not even get up to greet his friends.<\/p><\/div>\n

Scout was fifty pounds of love in one nig hairy package!\u00a0 We called our handyman, Tom, and asked him to help get Scout to the van so we could go to the vet.<\/p>\n

At 10:00 am, Tom arrived, and without a whimper, Scout recognized him and went into his arms for the journey to the van.<\/p>\n

We went to the vet, and after a lengthy discussion about options, the doctor agreed with our decision to let go.\u00a0 He was too good a baby to live deaf, partially blind, confused, and unable to walk.<\/p>\n

He was taken into the back where a chetar was inserted into his arm, and then he came back out with us for his last visit.<\/p>\n

Scout was well known and everybody loved him at first sight<\/p><\/div>\n

We talked to him for quite a while and brought “Moosey” to be with him.\u00a0 Mary got Moosey the day Scout came from the adoption agency.\u00a0 He carried Moosey around for over ten years, never hurting him, and now Moosey sits on our fireplace mantle looking out into the room for his friend.<\/p>\n

The last goodbye!<\/p><\/div>\n

He was happy until the end.\u00a0 He was such a dear friend and loving creature.<\/p>\n

Scout passed over the Rainbow Bridge.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.<\/p>\n

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.\u00a0 There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.<\/p>\n

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.\u00a0 Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.<\/p>\n

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.<\/p>\n

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.\u00a0 His bright eyes are intent.\u00a0 His eager body quivers.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.\u00a0 You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.<\/p>\n

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.<\/p>\n

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….<\/p>\n

The rest of the day was somber.\u00a0 We had lunch at home courtesy of Dianne, who came to console us with burgers and fries.\u00a0 We then went to the doctor and finally to the American Legion for a glass of wine.<\/p>\n

Returning home to an empty house was difficult after our own official greeter was not there to wiggle his tail and say hello and “Where were you?”.<\/p>\n

We visited Jeff for a bit, tried to watch a movie, and gave up, going to bed at 9:00 p.m., hoping the sadness would ease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
