When we got up, we decided to go to the Elks Annual Car Show at the Lodge.\u00a0 We expected a few cars, but there were probably 150-200 cars and bikes on display!\u00a0 I fell in love with the 1957 Ford Hardtop Convertible.<\/p>\n

\n

The Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner is a two-door full-size retractable hardtop convertible, manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company for model years 1957\u20131959.\u00a0 However, early into the 1959 model year, its name was expanded to Fairlane 500 Galaxie Skyliner.\u00a0 The retracting roof system was marketed as the Hide-Away Hardtop and was exclusively sold on this Ford-branded model for three model years.<\/p>\n

Ford’s 1957 Skyliner was the world’s first retracting hardtop convertible to be truly mass-produced by a car company from the factory, achieving nearly 50,000 sales.\u00a0 Earlier, French car-maker Peugeot had offered several such models in the 1930s, with the help of a coachbuilding company, which sold only in minimal numbers.\u00a0 It also marked the first time the hard roof featured a folding (front) section, to retract and fit inside the car’s trunk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ford was only the second car-maker in history to produce retractable hardtops.<\/p><\/div>\n

In the process of being restored, it will be a beauty eventually!<\/p>\n

The restoration starts with the mechanics and the power plant.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Elks had about twenty trophies to pass out for the winner of the show, and I spotted this one!<\/p>\n

Convertibles, I guess!<\/p><\/div>\n

Mary was brave and held this one up, but would not walk around the Lodge carrying it!<\/p>\n

Indeed!!<\/p><\/div>\n

We ate at the Lodge, where we both had a breakfast burrito and orange juice.<\/p>\n

The Lodge has excellent food!<\/p><\/div>\n

I could NOT pass this beauty up.\u00a0 It stood out amongst the more reserved car colors.<\/p>\n

The red topless!<\/p><\/div>\n

We got a call late in the afternoon that our dear friend Irene was hospitalized as she was having severe pains in her tummy and back.\u00a0 They suspected a form of cancer, but more tests will tell.\u00a0 God bless this magnificent lady and faithful friend!<\/p>\n

Her spirits are up, but that was to be expected!\u00a0 It’s Irene!<\/p><\/div>\n

We returned home, and Mary made a tomato pie, and we took some to Jeff.\u00a0 We are going to take some to the gym tomorrow morning.\u00a0 \u00a0We watched TV until 11:00 pm and crashed.<\/p>\n
