Getting old is not for the faint of heart!!<\/p><\/div>\n

It rained again last night, not exactly rain, but a hefty dew!\u00a0 Everything was wet, so we strolled through the garden admiring Mother Natures’ work!\u00a0 We have some more tomatoes that have grown out of the top of their cages, meaning we have a Home Depot trip to make.<\/p>\n

Another fantastic day in paradise!<\/p><\/div>\n

The tassels are coming; the tassels are coming!\u00a0 Beware, whoopi is about to occur in the garden!<\/p>\n

The corn is as high as a baby elephant’s eye!<\/p><\/div>\n

What Is That Thing Growing on the Top of My Corn?\u00a0 <\/strong>At approximately 50 days after planting corn, depending on the variety, you will notice a tall, thin growth coming out of the top of your corn stalk.\u00a0 It starts as one shoot, then grows additional shoots with a feathered appearance.\u00a0 The whole part is called the tassel and looks like a tassel you might find at the end of a pull cord.<\/p>\n

What is The Purpose of a Corn Tassel?\u00a0 <\/strong>Although the tassels on your corn have their beauty, their purpose is far more than ornamental.\u00a0 The corn tassel is the male reproductive organ of a corn plant, so your corn will not pollinate without it.\u00a0 Looking closely at the tassel, you will notice that each frond is covered with a powdery yellow substance.\u00a0 This is the pollen without which your corn will not produce ears.\u00a0 The pollen from the tassel is blown onto the silk, and the ear is fertilized.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Off to the Elks for Wednesday lunch with Bill and Bob!\u00a0 It’s always fun to listen to these two buy and sell stocks, and Bill explains how it is done!<\/p>\n

We were good today, having a bowl of soup and a small salad!\u00a0 We want to fit into our string bikinis for the trip!<\/p>\n

Lunchtime!<\/p><\/div>\n

After lunch, we whizzed over to Huntington Beach for a hair appointment.\u00a0 It took her 14 seconds to put a damp rag on my hair and snip two hairs.\u00a0 On the other hand, Mary took a while, and it involved sacrificing two black cats, something about an alligator tooth, a single left hand bat wing, and two bags of walnuts.<\/p>\n

We will be pretty for the trip!<\/p><\/div>\n

Returning home, Mary decided to go shopping, and Scout came to assist.\u00a0 \u00a0We are having bell peppers and stir-fry this evening.<\/p>\n

Scout took Mommy for a walk in the garden!<\/p><\/div>\n

Mary brings her shopping bag, and Scout points to the exact location where she must pick.<\/p>\n

“Just a little to the right,” says Scout!<\/p><\/div>\n

I straightened out the amendment cart and ensured everything was waterproofed in case it rains.<\/p>\n

The rolling chemical farm!!<\/p><\/div>\n

The garden looks great, although we may have to replant the corn as it is not doing well; we planted too early, and it has been too cold!<\/p>\n

The garden is looking good!<\/p><\/div>\n

We will let it grow for another two weeks, but if it is not looking better, we will replant it.<\/p>\n

Corn is on its way but it is not very green?<\/p><\/div>\n

Mary fixed a wonderful dinner, and we watched a movie called\u00a0 The Intruder”<\/p>\n
