We went to church, did some grocery shopping and then we were off to Cerritos for a visit with the New Christy Minstrels\u2019.\u00a0 The New Christy Minstrels\u2019 influence on Pop and Folk music is indisputable, with chart-topping hits like Green, Green; This Land Is Your Land; Denver;<\/em> and the Oscar-winning song Chim Chim Cher-ee.<\/em> The ensemble, hailed for its rich and robust vocal blend, garnered a \u201cBest Performance by a Chorus\u201d Grammy for its album Presenting The New Christy Minstrels.<\/em> Special guest Barry McGuire performs with the group.<\/p>\n

Did You Know? Christy’s Minstrels, sometimes referred to as the Christy Minstrels, were a blackface group formed by Edwin Pearce Christy, a well-known ballad singer, in 1843,[1] in Buffalo, New York. They were instrumental in the solidification of the minstrel show into a fixed three-act form.[2] The troupe also invented or popularized “the line”, the structured grouping that constituted the first act of the standardized 3-act minstrel show, with the interlocutor in the middle and “Mr. Tambo” and “Mr. Bones” on the ends.<\/p>\n
