I worked during every vacation at Dad&#8217;s dime store.\u00a0 It was not Dad&#8217;s, but he was the VP &amp; General Manager, and his boss, Ralph, and he were inseparable.\u00a0 The stores were Ralph&#8217;s 5, 10, &amp; 25 Cent Stores.<\/p>\n<p>Easter was no exception.\u00a0 My job on Easter was to make up Easter baskets, and I worked alone in the store&#8217;s basement on Pico Blvd in Los Angeles.\u00a0 It was spooky to be there alone, but I did it anyway.<\/p>\n<p>I loved making the baskets, filling them with green excelsior, and arranging small toys and lots of chocolate bunnies, peeps, and jelly beans.\u00a0 \u00a0Sometimes I would hide candy in the paper we used to raise the level in the basket!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-67776\" src=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/03\/pix-5404.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"481\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/03\/pix-5404.jpg 585w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/03\/pix-5404-133x150.jpg 133w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One slight problem: I had a sweet tooth and ate a load of candy one day.\u00a0 By lunchtime, I was on a sugar high.\u00a0 Dad and Ralph came to get me and went to lunch; things seemed to settle down.\u00a0 I did look a little red, black, yellow, purple, orange, tan, and everything in between.\u00a0 Back to work, a jelly bean for someone and a jelly bean for me.\u00a0 I did that all afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>By 5:00 pm, quitting time, my ten-year-old tummy was a tad out of sorts.\u00a0 I was so sick that night that my parents thought the doctors should be called.\u00a0 Then I told them what I had done.\u00a0 No doctor, just a night of being sicker than a dog.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, I returned to my job, but no sugar entered my body for weeks after that!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>I woke up with great fear as my BP was 116\/70, which is back to &#8220;my normal&#8221;; what if I have to give up wine?\u00a0 OMG, what will I do?\u00a0 I guess I will do what I do every New Year&#8217;s Eve.\u00a0 Have the barkeep mix me a diet coke with 7-Up and let it sit for a few minutes while the bubbles dissipate; a mock bourbon and seven!\u00a0 I love to watch people get tipsy and can act the same but stay stober.\u00a0 I go to the new cardiologist on Friday and have pages of BP readings on an Excel spreadsheet!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"joke-title\">My doctor just prescribed me another blood pressure medication.\u00a0 It was a tough pill to swallow.<\/h3>\n<p>The melodic voice of my angel pierced the room, or was it an announcement from Alexa to the entire house?; I get even!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Today is planned to be slow.\u00a0 We called PT and told them the doctor was sick.\u00a0 Can I write an excuse?\u00a0 Dear PT Guru, Mary can&#8217;t come out and play today because she has a tummy ache in her head!\u00a0 That should do it, and I will write it with crayolas, so they know it is me!<\/p>\n<p>The doorbell rang, and I got our latest delivery from Amazon; thank you to Lipton.\u00a0 I went to the market earlier and got her extra pulp orange juice and a package of rookies that one has to bake.\u00a0 Feed a cold, starve a fever!<\/p>\n<p>While I was cooking, it came to me&#8230; A poem about my cooking!\u00a0 I almost sound like Shakespeare!<\/p>\n<div class=\"didYouKnow\">Double, double toil and trouble;<br \/>\nFire burn and caldron bubble.<br \/>\nFillet of a fenny snake,<br \/>\nIn the caldron boil and bake;<br \/>\nEye of newt and toe of frog,<br \/>\nWool of bat and tongue of dog,<br \/>\nAdder&#8217;s fork and blind-worm&#8217;s sting,<br \/>\nLizard&#8217;s leg and howlet&#8217;s wing,<br \/>\nFor a charm of powerful trouble,<br \/>\nLike a hell-broth boil and bubble.<br \/>\nDouble, double toil and trouble;<br \/>\nFire burn and caldron bubble.<br \/>\nCool it with a baboon&#8217;s blood,<br \/>\nThen the charm is firm and good.<\/div>\n<p>We watched TV until 11:00 pm, and I crashed;
