{"id":67236,"date":"2023-02-13T04:41:46","date_gmt":"2023-02-13T11:41:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/?p=67236"},"modified":"2023-03-28T04:14:44","modified_gmt":"2023-03-28T11:14:44","slug":"laid-back-monday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/?p=67236","title":{"rendered":"Laid Back Monday!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"didYouKnow\">\n<p><strong>Memories<\/strong>:\u00a0 Miles of Blue Canvas!\u00a0 When I was about eight, our next-door neighbor was MGM Culver City&#8217;s head cameraman.\u00a0 In his backyard, behind the garage, he and May, his wife, built a &#8220;cocktail lounge:<\/p>\n<p>The lounge was the size of a garage, perhaps 20&#215;20 feet.\u00a0 In the corner was a beautiful bar (which he got from the studio lot after a movie shoot).\u00a0 The room was painted red and black and had several neon signs on the walls, most of which I do not remember but probably beer signs.\u00a0 Outside there was a neon sign saying &#8220;Rooster Lounge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On one wall were perhaps 20 magnificent perfect miniature military models; trucks, tanks, artillery pieces, etc.\u00a0 \u00a0These we used in the military films he shot in his career.\u00a0 I loved going over to Brownie&#8217;s and visiting the models.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-67241\" src=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2023-02-13-001-1-650x517.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"456\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2023-02-13-001-1-650x517.jpg 650w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2023-02-13-001-1-150x119.jpg 150w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2023-02-13-001-1.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One afternoon, Brownie came over and talked to dad, and a few minutes later, days said, &#8220;Pop in the car; we are going to the studio.&#8221;\u00a0 That sounded like fun.\u00a0 When we for there, we drove through the gates and into the backlot.\u00a0 MGM had a giant outdoor screen, probably 150 feet long and 100 feet high.\u00a0 On this screen, they would paint backgrounds.\u00a0 That day it was sky made of blue canvas and white paint.\u00a0 The men were taking it down and about to toss it in the dumpster.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"didYouKnow\">\n<p>Brownie talked to them, and they cut off several pieces of solid blue canvas.\u00a0 They were large pieces, perhaps 80 x 20 and another 60 x 40, and several smaller pieces.\u00a0 We all helped fold the canvas and put them in the back of our station wagon.<\/p>\n<p>For a long time, the kids in the neighborhood and I would play with these canvas sheets.\u00a0 We made theaters with curtains (throwing them over a clothesline) and made tents from anything we could find.\u00a0 Those canvas sheets made a lot of kids happy!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Chuck and Lisa are departing for North Carolina today, and we will miss them.\u00a0 They are excellent house guests, and we are happy to help in their time of need (the main reason for the trip was to attend a celebration of life for Lisa&#8217;s younger sister).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-67252\" src=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2023-02-13-003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"444\" height=\"679\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2023-02-13-003.jpg 564w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2023-02-13-003-98x150.jpg 98w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 444px) 100vw, 444px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We had a PT appointment in Tustin at 8:30 AM, so we departed the house at 7:30 AM, and the ol&#8217; Grey Ghost raced down the 55 to John Wayne Airport quickly.\u00a0 We did the dropoff and returned to Tustin with ten minutes to spare before Mary&#8217;s PT appointment.<\/p>\n<p>We went to Rockwell&#8217;s for breakfast and shared corned beef hash, plus I did a side of ham.\u00a0 It was cold outside, so we both had hot coffee, and it warmed our hands and insides.<\/p>\n<p>We returned home to give Scout his medicines before going out again.\u00a0 We came inside and could not find him!\u00a0 We panicked, then we heard paper rustling; he is such an intelligent dog.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_67245\" style=\"width: 518px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67245\" class=\"size-full wp-image-67245\" src=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/pix-5345.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"508\" height=\"761\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/pix-5345.jpg 508w, https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2023\/02\/pix-5345-100x150.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-67245\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Smarty!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After walking the garden, we settled in for a day in the office.\u00a0 How does paper stack up like this?\u00a0 We had two weeks without working in the office, and then, we had to fight our way into the office.\u00a0 The place was buried in mounds of envelopes and bills!\u00a0 We spent from 10:30 AM until 7:30 PM in the office and were 99% done.<\/p>\n<p>We managed to cut our bills in half.
