Fact: Henry Edwards Huntington (February 27, 1850 \u2013 May 23, 1927) was an American railroad magnate and collector of art and rare books. <\/strong>Huntington settled in Los Angeles, where he owned the Pacific Electric Railway and substantial real estate interests. In addition to being a businessman and art collector, Huntington was a significant booster for Los Angeles in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many places in California are named after him.<\/em><\/p>\n

We decided NOT to drive home after the dance last night, so we stayed at a local Marriott in Pasadena. In the morning, we got up and headed to the Huntington, where I have been a member for twenty-plus years.<\/p>\n

Mary likes to walk, so we did just that! Please join us for a walk in the gardens at the Huntington<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our first “stop” was the terrific cactus gardens.<\/p>\n

We stopped to catch our breath and take in the silent beauty of the plans.<\/p><\/div>\n

The cacti seemed unusually active this morning.<\/p>\n

We felt like someone was watching us!<\/p><\/div>\n

We walked through the Australian gardens and the lily pools and finally onto the Japanese gardens.<\/p>\n

We had to kiss the lion to get past him!<\/p><\/div>\n

The Japanese gardens were beautiful. The house is still standing after 120 years! A new house is being added to the upper level of these gardens; we will see it next time.<\/p>\n

We did not do the stairs; we took a side path!<\/p><\/div>\n

From Japan, we walked over to China and had a little rest.<\/p>\n

By this time, we had walked for almost two and a half hours; we were tired.<\/p><\/div>\n

One more burst of energy came forth, and we walked through the gallery building and over to the rose garden. It was worth the push!<\/p>\n

Into the herb garden to examine their current crops!<\/p><\/div>\n

I love those roses.<\/p>\n

The rose garden was blooming nicely, but in a couple of months, they will be chopped off and ready for spring.<\/p><\/div>\n

We checked our watches and did over three hours, 1,075 calories (each), and walked nearly 7,100 steps.<\/p>\n

We drove home, took a tiny little nap, and at 5:00 PM, Irene, Mary, and I went to the Elks to, you guessed it, dinner and dancing. The band was 5-Star, and they were terrific. We will use these guys again with perfect dance music and not too loud!<\/p>\n
