Fact: The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is the repository of presidential records from the administration of Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, and the burial place of the President and first lady, Nancy Reagan.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

We readied ourselves for a big adventure today; we drove to Simi Valley and visited the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.\u00a0 More interesting is that we met with Mary’s college roommate, her daughter, and a cast of thousands!<\/p>\n

It was going to be a 90-minute ride, so we added some time due to traffic.\u00a0 The traffic was nil; we made it in 90 minutes but decided to have a little bite to eat before going to the library.\u00a0 We went to a French Restaurant that happened to be open; it was called Jaques In Zee Box.<\/p>\n

The weather was perfect; mid 70’s with a slight breeze!<\/p>\n

The complex is quite impressive; President Reagan did it right!<\/p><\/div>\n

He welcomed us at the entrance to the lobby; he was bigger than life-size.<\/p>\n

It was so nice to have a President we were proud of instead of this bugger-brain we have today!<\/p><\/div>\n

We took our pictures with Ronnie and Nancy; we were quite a gaggle.<\/p>\n

One of Zack’s friends was a docent at the library, and we got a personal tour.<\/p>\n

Did you know?\u00a0 <\/strong>The title of docent is used in many countries for what Americans would call an associate professor\u2014that is, a college or university teacher who has been given tenure but hasn’t yet achieved the rank of full professor.\u00a0 But in the U.S., a docent is a guide who works at a museum, a historical site, or even a zoo or a park.\u00a0 Docents are usually volunteers, and their services are often free of charge.<\/div>\n

How we kept together for the next few hours was amazing to me!<\/p><\/div>\n

Mary stepped up to the podium and began to speak.\u00a0 Even old Jimma applauded!<\/p>\n

It was a fun stop to take pictures.<\/p><\/div>\n

The oval office was precisely to scale.\u00a0 When the building was under construction, the ceiling was too high.\u00a0 President Reagan told the crew to lower the office by four feet so the height of the office would be precisely 18.5 feet in the center.<\/p>\n

We learned the story of the Resolute Desk.<\/p><\/div>\n

Off to the hangar where Air Force One (when the President was on board) looked like it could fly right through the glass window and head out to do America’s work.<\/p>\n

Mary (sometimes doing a Vanna White reenactment) shows us the plane<\/p><\/div>\n

The communications compartment was upfront in the aircraft.\u00a0 I was interested in crypto equipment.\u00a0 The KG-84 was proudly on display.<\/p>\n

Did You Know?\u00a0 <\/strong>KG84 is a dedicated loop encryption device for digital data, developed in the early 1980s by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) for use by the American Department of Defense (DoD) and NATO.\u00a0 The device uses the SAVILLE encryption algorithm \u2013 jointly developed by GCHQ and the NSA \u2013 and was approved for all classification levels.\u00a0 When unkeyed, the KG-84 is unclassified but remains a Controlled Cryptographic Item (CCI).\u00a0 It was succeeded in the mid-1990s by KIV-7.<\/div>\n

The original, as delivered airplane, had teletype equipment; the teletypes were replaced with computers so it would not look too old and out of place!<\/p><\/div>\n

The President’s office was private but had no bed, only a couch to sleep on.\u00a0 The 707 had 1,200 square feet of room, and the new 747 had 4,000 square feet of space!<\/p>\n

The hangar is quite roomy!<\/p>\n

We are gathering so we can go to lunch together!<\/p><\/div>\n

The kids found fun things to do!<\/p><\/div>\n

After lunch, we kept going as there was a fantastic WWII Secrets exhibit.\u00a0 Does Mary wonder if she should hitch a ride with the guys in the M4 tank?<\/p>\n

The M4 Sherman, officially Medium Tank, M4, was the most widely used medium tank by the United States and Western Allies in World War II.\u00a0 The M4 Sherman proved reliable, relatively cheap to produce, and available in great numbers.\u00a0 It was also the basis of several other armored fighting vehicles, including self-propelled artillery, tank destroyers, and recovery vehicles.\u00a0 Tens of thousands were distributed through the Lend-Lease program to the British Commonwealth and the Soviet Union.\u00a0 The British named the tank for the American Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman.<\/div>\n

We walked for several hours and were ready to hit the road as we had another stop to make!<\/p>\n

We popped over to Diane’s place and visited with her and the grandkids.\u00a0 They were studying for their finals, so we did not stay long.\u00a0 We did see the chickens.<\/p>\n

We zoomed home on the 101 and then to the 405-22-55 making it by 7:00 PM.\u00a0 I was tired from all that driving, so we dined on the patio and crashed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
