Fact: 5: Gregorian Calendar Accurate To 26 Seconds A Year –<\/strong> The Gregorian calendar was introduced on 24th February 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII to correct the 11\u00bd minutes lost a year by the Julian calendar and so bring back alignment with the Earth’s revolutions around the sun. A more precise method of calculating Leap Years was then devised, basically requiring it to be divisible by 4 to count, unless it is also divisible by 100, in which case it is NOT a leap year. While somewhat more accurate than its predecessor, the Gregorian calendar we use today still differs from the solar year by 26 seconds each year or one day every 3,323 years.<\/em><\/p>\n

Wow, today is 2\/22\/22; that’ is a lot of 2’s! I digress!<\/p>\n

We took down the remains of Valentine’s Day, including the tree, and replaced them with St. Patrick’s Day decorations. Mary and I are little nuts that way.\u00a0 \u00a0After undecorating the tree, I got to thinking, always a dangerous thing to do. So I asked Mary, “If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?”<\/p>\n

Oh dear, I had another thought! I let it out, “What did the boy octopus say to the girl octopus? Can I hold your hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand?”<\/p>\n

The forecast called for rain, which meant I had to move and protect the wooden doors from the closets. While I moved them and wrapped them in a tarp, Mary got things ready for our guests this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Scout, The Wonder Dog, keeps vigil in the backyard. Since he arrived at Casa Valencia, we have not seen a single elephant in the yard; he does a wonderful job!!<\/p>\n

We await the screen door.<\/p><\/div>\n

We got another high-wind alert today, and the flags indicate the warning was timely. The top of the flag pole moves about 6″ when a strong gust arrives.<\/p>\n

Let’s run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it is a catchphrase that became popular in the United States during the late 1950s and early 1960s. It means “to present an idea tentatively and see whether it receives a favorable reaction.” It is now considered a clich\u00e9. Sometimes it is used seriously, but more often, it is used humorously, with the intention that it be recognized as both corny and outdated. A non-joking equivalent would be “to send up a trial balloon.”<\/div>\n

Sydney, Harold, and Jeannie came over to play a game that Harold invented forty-plus years ago. It is called “OK.” It was patterned after the book entitled “I’m OK \u2013 You’re OK.”<\/p>\n

Did You Know? <\/strong>I’m OK \u2013 You’re OK is a 1967 self-help book by psychiatrist Thomas Anthony Harris. It is a practical guide to transactional analysis to solve problems in life.<\/p>\n

The book made the New York Times Best Seller list in 1972 and remained there for almost two years. The publisher estimated that it will have sold over 15 million copies to date and translated into over a dozen languages.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
