Fact: An instrument to measure wind speed is called an anemometer.\u00a0<\/strong>A gale is officially defined as a wind of between 32 and 63 miles per hour, and a wind blowing from 4 to 31 mph is a breeze.<\/em><\/p>\n

Our anemometer registered zero this morning. The wind blew the device off its steel post, landing in the bushes.<\/p>\n

As I opened the front door, there, laying out in all its glory, was the van cover. I was happy the tie-down got caught on the back wheel, or otherwise, the cover might have ended up in San Pedro!<\/p>\n

Oops! The van is now going topless!<\/p><\/div>\n

We let Scout, The Wonder Dog, out, and he rambled to the back yard, took his stance, and was amazed when his tinkle came back to visit him! He jumped up yelped as if to say, “What’s going on here??? It’s raining!”\u00a0 \u00a0I took the time to explain the term to him, “Pissing in the wind!”<\/p>\n

The intelligent dog he is, he faced the wind (remember he is a dog), assumed the position, and let loose with a mighty flow. The neighbors, two doors down, probably did not appreciate it as the wind carried his contribution up, up, and away! I took a mental note in case I have the urge on a windy day!<\/p>\n

The wind was ferocious!<\/p><\/div>\n

We enjoyed our morning coffee; thank you, Mr. Keurig! I checked, my blood type is coffee. After our second cup, Mary and I figured out what Einstein was attempting to say!\u00a0 The coffee worked well, I had a pulse soon after finishing the first cup!<\/p>\n

The wind dried out everything, so I headed to the backyard, phone in hand, and punched the “water all” button.\u00a0 Immediately the irrigation valves burst into action, and water flowed into the dry planters. One could almost see the tiny flowers smile and slurp up the delicious H20!<\/p>\n

Mary loves were Spring(ing) frogs!<\/p><\/div>\n

At 10:30 AM, we began getting ready for “Girls Night Out.” Mary went first into the shower. I diddled around outside, looking for more wind-caused modifications. I was amazed to find the solid closet doors I had stacked against the house had blown over; these suckers were 60-90 pounds each!<\/p>\n

We dropped by Jan’s for a fly-by before heading south on the 55 Freeway. We were first there, so we got the hear the specials early. Mary did the Italian Wedding Soup, and I attacked the Swordfish Special.<\/p>\n

Fact: Swordfish are ectothermic animals, which means they are reliant on external heating methods when it comes to controlling their internal body temperature. However, these animals have special organs right next to their eyes for warming both their eyes and brains. The ability to heat their eyes improves the quality of their vision and therefore it also increases their ability to hunt.<\/div>\n

Bill tells us a story.<\/p><\/div>\n

We yak for a good hour, poking fun at each other and retelling stories of yesteryear. We love Iris’ stories as she is 95 years young and has a better memory than most of us at the table. She tells of riding dinosaurs and riding on the back of terra-dack-tiles. OK, maybe that is stretching it a little.<\/p>\n

Mary sits at the head of the table because her hats add a particular class to the table, and any added class is helpful with this group.<\/p>\n

Sydney joined us today, and Bob loves to tease her! Can you tell? We are missing Bob (in the desert celebrating his 43rd wedding anniversary with Donna), and the Ash’s were AWOL.<\/p>\n

We departed about 1:30 PM to let Scout outside and take our Thursday after-GNO nap, now a regular activity. We both read the funny book and finally got up about 4:30 PM and attacked the kitchen.<\/p>\n

We pulled the big TV into the kitchen and watched two TCM classic movies. First was “Meet John Doe.” Meet John Doe is a 1941 American comedy-drama film directed and produced by Frank Capra, written by Robert Riskin, and starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. The film is about a “grassroots” political campaign created unwittingly by a newspaper columnist with the involvement of a hired homeless man and pursued by the paper’s wealthy owner. It became a box-office hit and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Story.<\/p>\n

While the movie was playing we were slicing and dicing and preparing the ingredients for tonight’s dinner.\u00a0 We work together well as a team while enjoying the crazy comedies of the 1930s thru 1950s.<\/p>\n

We pulled out the Instapot-Ultimate tonight.<\/p><\/div>\n

Then we watched another movie entitled, “My Favorite Brunette.” My Favorite Brunette is a 1947 American romantic comedy film and film noir parody, directed by Elliott Nugent and starring Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour. The film is about a baby photographer on death row in San Quentin State Prison who tells reporters his history. While taking care of his private-eye neighbor’s office, he is asked by an irresistible baroness to find a missing baron, which initiates a series of confusing but sinister events in a gloomy mansion and a private sanatorium.<\/p>\n
