Today was pretty long with most of the time spent at the hospital.\u00a0 No culture results and Sue was, for the most part, unable to remember Paul.\u00a0 The docs think it was a UTI which moved into sepsis. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that arises when the body’s response to infection causes injury to its own tissues and organs by passing the infection throughout the body via the blood.<\/p>\n

Serious, very serious!<\/p><\/div>\n

The doc said the choice of antibiotics is important in determining the survival of the person.\u00a0 Some recommend they be given within one hour of making the diagnosis, stating that for every hour of delay in the administration of antibiotics, there is an associated 6% rise in mortality. Scary stuff.\u00a0 As I recall, she went from the ER to having antibiotics within two hours (they needed to rule out stroke so a Catscan was ordered initially).<\/p>\n
