{"id":29513,"date":"2018-04-12T16:49:20","date_gmt":"2018-04-12T23:49:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/?p=29513"},"modified":"2018-04-15T06:45:58","modified_gmt":"2018-04-15T13:45:58","slug":"it-be-thursday-down-hill-from-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/?p=29513","title":{"rendered":"It Be Thursday; Down Hill from Here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we sat down to our computers in our office today we remembered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0&#8220;Computers in the future may weigh no more than 1.5 tons.&#8221; &#8212; Popular Mechanics, forecasting the relentless march of science, 1949<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0&#8220;I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.&#8221; &#8212; Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0&#8220;I have traveled the length and breadth of this country and talked with the best people, and I can assure you that data processing is a fad that won&#8217;t last out the year.&#8221; &#8212; The editor in charge of business books for Prentice Hall, 1957<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0&#8220;But what &#8230; is it good for?&#8221; &#8212; Engineer at the Advanced Computing Systems Division of IBM, 1968, commenting on the microchip.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0&#8220;640K ought to be enough for anybody.&#8221; &#8212; Bill Gates, 1981<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The day began in a spectacular fashion&#8230;72 degrees and an abundance of bright light&#8230;even the wind died down finally!<\/p>\n<p>On the way and the first stop was right around the corner&#8230;\u00a0 The white roses were magnificent. Nice to see people proud of their faith!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Upon returning home, Sue had brunch ready and we enjoyed our meal with Paul sharing the happenings.\u00a0 Sue always wants to know who Paul met along the way&#8230; not people&#8230; dogs!<\/p>\n<p>Today Paul met Bozo, a dachshund.\u00a0 This little bugger saw Paul and barked so loud he sounded like he was going to viciously attack poor Paul.\u00a0 So, Paul kneeled down, lowered his head a bit, and put out his arm low to the ground.\u00a0 After 3-4 minutes of sniffing and Paul, using terms of endearment,\u00a0 because great friends with Bozo.\u00a0 Bozo was a lover, NOT a fighter!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Did You Know? If World War I was tough on dachshunds, what came next was just weird. Nazi scientists boasted that they successfully taught the dogs to speak, read, spell, and even communicate telepathically. Germans believed that dogs were nearly as intelligent as humans, so they set up a special program called Hundesprechschule Asra to tap into that asset. Some of the outlandish feats claimed by the program included a dog that could say \u201cMein Fuhrer\u201d and another that could write poetry.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Kurwenal was a dachshund that could \u201cspeak\u201d with different numbers of barks for different letters\u2014sort of like a canine telegraph. According to Jan Bondeson&#8217;s book, Amazing Dogs: A Cabinet of Canine Curiosities, the dog even had his own biographer detailing the pup&#8217;s daily life. He reportedly liked pink roses, illustrated zoology books, and attractive women.
