We did some final touch-ups before everyone arrives on Saturday!<\/p><\/div>\n

Yes indeed… This weekend will time to color eggs and we will be having our family meet at the Himalayan Grill for lunch at noon before coming over and making artwork from six dozen eggs!\u00a0 Great fun!\u00a0 Remember last year? <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

We never knew we had so many budding artists in the family!<\/p><\/div>\n

It was time to go to work!\u00a0 Paul skipped the morning walk and began with a trip to the nursery to get the final plants for the summer season garden.<\/p>\n

After returning, Paul went to the market and got the last of the supplies and came home and hard boiled up six dozen eggs… This year we got some brown eggs to color (or at least decorate).<\/p>\n

The garden awaits!<\/p>\n

This bear looking area was soon transformed into a future home for tomatoes. onions, and tomotillos<\/p><\/div>\n

Time for garden work! Four hours in the garden and a 100 gallon trash can stuffed to the brim later, the front yard was ready! Paul gets all sorts of time to think while working and a random memory occurred!<\/p>\n

Random Memory: In the summer of 1953 we heard a racket from across the street from where we lived (on Comey Avenue near La Cienaga and Venice Blvd in Los Angeles).\u00a0 It was a wonderful place to grow up and we had open spaces… In fact we had three vacant lots on our street.\u00a0 No one knew who owned the lots, they were just open spaces to play! The Coolmer’s (our across-the-street neighbors)\u00a0\u00a0 bought the lot next to their house and made it a play yard for their four kids… and the neighborhood gang!
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

What was the racket you ask?\u00a0 It was a large dump truck that backed into the play yard and dumped several thousand small chunks of 2×4 and 2×6’s.\u00a0\u00a0 If memory serves correctly, the pieces were\u00a0 12″ to 36″ in length!\u00a0 Almost like bricks! It was a childs delight… Building materials! Bob Coolmer’s grandfather had a connection ina\u00a0 construction company and got the wood delivered after a big job had been completed!
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

So why did Paul think of this event?\u00a0 He walked past a house yesterday with an interesting brick wall.\u00a0 The wall was identical to the buildings we made with this wonderful pile of wood!<\/span><\/p>\n

These people copied our design from 1953!<\/p><\/div>\n

All summer long we built and rebuilt rooms and hallways and forts and towers using the wooden blocks!\u00a0 The rooms were tall enough we could walk into them and we topped them with canvas sheets to close in the spaces. From 6 AM to 6PM we worked and worked creating wonderful designs… Great memories.<\/span><\/p>\n

Summer was over and time to go to school and we noticed our magic pile of wood was slowly disappearing.\u00a0 Yep!\u00a0 The Coompler’s had an ulterior motive, wintertime fire wood!<\/span><\/p>\n

We watched some TV and then we got all cleaned up and headed to the Phoenix Club where we met with Nancy and Vince plus Bob and Donna and danced and visited.\u00a0 We actually danced a slow swing dance as we hope to restart our dancing activities after the several month long hiatus.\u00a0 We shared a big German pretzel and a beer\/mustard\/cheese sauce… Good groceries!<\/p>\n

Back home we tried to find another series to watch but alas, no luck so far… More research needed!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
