Duh!!<\/p><\/div>\n

The day started out pretty good but about noon, Sue developed a devestating headache and spent the rest of the day in bed.\u00a0 Paul obviously did not walk today but worked around the house mostly in the back yard putting the final touches on the garden before the weather warms up! The mulch is spread, the plants have been given a dose of fertilizer, and all the trimmings have been disposed of… It really looks pretty good for an early garden!<\/p>\n

In the afternoon we watched a little but of TV but Sue headed back to bed to rey and get rid of the headache.\u00a0 We were supposed to go to dinner with the Brander’s but we did a wave-off and stayed home.<\/p>\n

We are going to begin to add “random Memories” to this blog as Paul often just gets a flashback from years gone by and it might by fun to share them… Probably boring but alas, that’s life!<\/p>\n

Random Memory<\/strong>: Paul saw a picture of a soda fountain\/lunch counter at a Woolworth’s and remembered going to them for a burger and a soda all for 50 cents.\u00a0 Paul’s Dad worked for a dime store chain called Ralph’s 5, 10, and 25 Cent Stores.\u00a0 In the last part of the 1950’s they took over a Woolworth’s on Pico Blvd and it was called #11 store.<\/span><\/p>\n

That store was huge, typical of a Woolworth’s. The ceiling was 30 feet tall and require major ladders just to replace the lights.\u00a0 The old elevator was an antique as you had to reach out of the car to pull a steel cable wither up or down to begin the movement of the car… The car stopped automatically thank goodness.<\/span><\/p>\n

We used the rather large storage facility on the 2nd and 3rd floors for warehousing the chain’s holiday inventory and Paul probably rode 1,000 miles up and down the elevator in the many years he was around the dime store chain!<\/span><\/p>\n

During the retrofitting there was a discussion about whether to keep or take out the soda fountain and it was decided it must go… Times were changing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Paul remembers the red swivel seats and bright chrome accessories.\u00a0 The store was REAL wooden blank flooring and the lunch counter was on the east side of the building right by the front door probably so people could just pop in and eat!<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to WWII, Paul’s mother worked as a “soda jerk” farther down Pico Blvd and got to know many the “The Little Rascals” as they worked at the MGM Studio in Culver City and often walked by Georgia’s place of work and stopped for a soda.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was nice to go shopping and then stop by the lunch counter and grab a bite to eat.\u00a0 It was the last of the good fast food!<\/span><\/p>\n

Check the prices…. Sliced ham sandwich, 15 cents! Geeze!<\/span><\/p>\n

Indeed I Do!<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n

As it got dark, Paul turned to the computer and knocked out the next editions of “Topper’s Topix” which is the newsletter of the Topper’s Dance Club<\/a>.\u00a0 We do not mail it until about the 3rd but this way Paul gets a leg up and more time to proof read it!<\/p>\n

Other than that, it was a slow evening and by 10:00 PM it was time to crash for Paul!\u00a0 Sue was out like a light.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
