<\/a>We are going to have berries this summer<\/p><\/div>\n
PAul cleaned out the entire bed along the walls but one “little” pop-up tomato last year reinvigorated himself so Paul left it to grow and see what happens.\u00a0 It is a Juliet Tomato because one small one is already ripening. Slightly larger than the well-known Santa grape tomato, Juliet bears delicious, sweet fruit on indeterminate vines. Some gardeners refer to it as a mini Roma because of the shape. The wonderfully sweet fruit are crack resistant and remain in good condition on the vine longer than most cherry tomatoes.<\/p>\n
<\/a>The Lone Tomato<\/p><\/div>\n
The pathway is 24″ wide so there is plenty of room to walk and Paul can sit and pull those nasty little buggers we call weeds! Weeds reduce farm and forest productivity, they invade crops, smother pastures and in some cases can harm livestock. They aggressively compete for water, nutrients and sunlight, resulting in reduced crop yield and poor crop quality.<\/p>\n
<\/a>Easy to get to!<\/p><\/div>\n
They are awaiting their moment to shine…\u00a0 On six days we will pick them and some will be on the dinner table and some will go onto our homemade vinegar jar and come out sauerkraut in about six weeks! Sauerkraut\u00a0 is finely cut cabbage that has been fermented by various lactic acid bacteria.\u00a0 It has a long shelf life and a distinctive sour flavor, both of which result from the lactic acid that forms when the bacteria ferment the sugars in the cabbage.<\/p>\n
<\/a>We make sauerkraut at least once a year!<\/p><\/div>\n
<\/a>We are ready for St. Patrick’s Day!<\/p><\/div>\n
We still have room to plant more veggies but we are awaiting a better selection form the stores.\u00a0 Not seen are about 100 onion plants systematically planted around the outside of the main veggies…\u00a0 We pull them and eat them on demand year around!<\/p>\n
<\/a>The garden is good size!<\/p><\/div>\n
Paul was too pooped to pop so we stayed in this evening.\u00a0 We found a good use for the new air compressor!\u00a0 After being in the garden, the air cleans the bottom of the shoes and knocks off the dirt for the sweatshirt nicely!<\/p>\n
We had a great home cooked dinner and then crashed for the evening after a few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
