It’s wintertime so the berms have been formed form the local sands.<\/p>\n
Did You Know? A berm is a level space, shelf, or raised barrier separating two areas. It can serve as a border barrier. The word berm originates in the Middle Dutch and German berme and came into usage in English via French.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n In medieval military engineering, a berm (or berme) was a level space between a parapet or defensive wall and an adjacent steep-walled ditch or moat. It was intended to reduce soil pressure on the walls of the excavated part to prevent its collapse. It also meant that debris dislodged from fortifications would not fall into (and fill) a ditch or moat.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n Berms are also used to control erosion and sedimentation by reducing the rate of surface runoff. The berms either reduce the velocity of the water, or direct water to areas that are not susceptible to erosion, thereby reducing the adverse effects of running water on exposed topsoil.<\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n The berms are up to protect Seal Beach<\/p><\/div>\n After a mile, we needed some libation and where better to libate than Cafe St. Germain?\u00a0 A libation is a ritual pouring of a liquid as an offering to a god or spirit, or in memory of those who have “passed on”.\u00a0 We had two glasses of wine, each, selected form the chalk-board meaning, the prices and quality are excellent.\u00a0 We also had a cheese plate which was very good!<\/p>\n Cafe St. Germaine on Main Street<\/p><\/div>\n As we passed the various shops Sue spotted a painting of the old Parasol restaurant which was a fixture in Rossmoor for years and years!\u00a0 Gone no but never forgotten!<\/p>\n Our old restaurant, now only history<\/p><\/div>\n As we continued to walk the Coldstone Creamery appeared in the distance.\u00a0 While Paul resisted, Sue insisted! (Actually, we both insisted).\u00a0 We had a cup of the good stuff before heading home!<\/p>\n Coldstone Creamery<\/p><\/div>\n It was “Super Moon” night so Paul gave it a go…. FAILURE!\u00a0 But he tried!<\/p>\n Mega-Moon, lasts one for this year<\/p><\/div>\n Returning home, we watched a Hallmark Christmas movie and then crashed!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Sue and Paul did chores this morning..
