Off to home but NOT to rest…<\/p>\n
Our Grandson Zachary dropped by and helped Paul with some chores that he could not do alone.\u00a0 It is wonderful have such a fine young mad be part of our lives!\u00a0 We are indeed blessed!\u00a0 Zack told us to make a list as he would not mind coming over and helping us to the things we can’t do anymore (like going into the attic).<\/p>\n

Cabin fever is running rampant so Paul took Sue for a walk.\u00a0 We did the 45 minute walk around the neighborhood.\u00a0 No pictures today as Paul was busy with the wheel chair but Sue got to visit “the special sites” Paul mentions… Essential visits like to the “Cat with the busted nose” and “Gate that keeps ‘Yap Yap the Dog’ in the back yard”… We got a good laugh out of seeing the sites!<\/p>\n
At 4:30 PM our alarms go off as it is time to do Malarkeys.\u00a0 Luisa joined us this evening along with Irene and we gabbed for almost three hours solving the problems of the world along with a lot of laughing! (When you see Luisa, ask her about her measurement cartoon!)<\/p>\n

The sun is going down so we await the “big splash”… The splash sound\u00a0 never occurred so we think it was because we were inside and could not hear it!<\/p>\n

We had a major discussion on where does the sun rise and set during the year relative to the horizon…. So…<\/p>\n
Did You Know<\/strong>: Irrespective of where you are on the globe, the Sun will always rise exactly East and set exactly West on two days: March 21 and September 21 which are the two equinoxes. As to the second part, it is a little complicated:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Consider an arbitrary location on Earth (to make matters simple, consider a place in the northern hemisphere). Now, the celestial north pole (where the star Polaris resides) will be at an angle above the horizon and the angle is exactly equal to the latitude of the place. Imagine yourself facing Polaris (so that you are facing north exactly). Then East will be to your right and West will be to your left. Now, draw a circle which passes through East and West and whose plane is exactly perpendicular to the line joining you and Polaris. This circle marks the path of the Sun from dawn to dusk on the two equinoxes.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Now, draw a circle which is exactly parallel to the first circle, but which are separated from the first circle by 23.5 degrees at the zenith towards Polaris. This marks the path of the Sun during summer solstice and the place where this circle cuts the horizons will mark the place where the Sun will rise and set on the day of summer solstice. A similar circle which is separated from the first circle by 23.5 degrees at zenith towards south will mark the path of the Sun on winter solstice. Click here to see a diagram illustrating this.
