We got up early and prepare for a long day!\u00a0 First stop, Seasons 52!\u00a0 Great dining and not too many calories.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We went across the street to South Coast Repertory to see “Red”.\u00a0 Excellent play because Paul stayed awake for the full 90 minutes!\u00a0 Summary: \u201cWhat do you see?\u201d Mark Rothko, abstract expressionist, living legend and uncompromising bad boy asks Ken, his seemingly na\u00efve new assistant. It\u2019s 1958, and Rothko is at the height of his glory. In a converted gym deep in New York City\u2019s Bowery, he has begun work on the biggest commission in the history of modern art\u2014and everything is at stake. Rothko\u2019s movement has stomped out cubism, but pop art looms threateningly on the horizon. As canvases are stretched, paint mixed and feverishly applied, Ken\u2019s answers turn into questions, becoming more probing\u2014and provoking\u2014with each brush stroke in this heart-stopping Tony Award winner about the nature of art and artists.<\/p>\n
