In time, you’ll disembark at Ensenada Perez – a series of open-air pools connected by footbridges and naturally heated by volcanically-fueled hot springs. This relatively short expedition plunges you deeply into this astounding landscape as you visit recently-inaugurated Aiken del Sur Private Park, set on 3,500 acres along the banks of transparent-blue Lake Riesco. Get a thorough introduction to the area at the park’s information center, see a display of the most impressive trees that flourish in these forests, and visit a traditional quincho pavilion for some refreshments. You’ll return to the ship refreshed and inspired to see even more of Patagonia on another trip.

Fly fish for trout in the wilds of Patagonia, accompanied by a seasoned guide who will enhance the experience with expert tips and local knowledge. Your initial destination for this adventure is Los Torreones, a fishing lodge on the banks of the Simpson River – known hangout of plump brown and rainbow trout. But, as always, weather and water conditions will dictate where an optimum fishing experience is most likely. Luckily, spectacular fishing is part of what this entire Aysén region is about, so the options are many. You might fly fish the Simpson from the comfort of a classic Mackenzie drift boat, or if the nearby Manihuales or Aysén River appears more suitable, your guide may opt for one of those two watercourses. Other typical choices include magnificent Lake Riesco or a local stream that can only be fished with waders. No matter which body of water you fish, your guide will be ready with the right equipment and advice to ensure a memorable experience. The trout in this area typically run between 16 and 20 inches in length and weigh up to six pounds – and landing one provides a ton of thrill.
