These write-ups are the fine work of Frank Mickadeit of the OC Register who published a series of articles on the Elks Lodges.  There are repeated onto this site to make it easy for our friends to find.

There are some great acts touring Southern California this summer: The Jonas Brothers, Miley Sirus, AC/DC. But there's one show touring OC you won't want to miss … Frank Mickadeit's "11 Lodges, 11 Nights, Elks Tour" hitting Newport July 16.

OC Register Columnist Frank Mickadeit and his sidekick, my husband Stan, are visiting 11 Elks Lodges in 11 days. "Stan's my Ed McMahon," said Frank. "And he's more fun to be around at this point."

Now granted, there've been some great "buddy" teams over the years – Abbott & Costello, Batman & Robin, Starsky & Hutch. But Frank and Stan are more of a mix of the Blues Brothers /Odd Couple.

These good buds pick an adventure each summer. Last summer they joined me and the cast of SPLASH singing and dancing. This year they're hitting the road in a 40-foot motor home, camping out each night at a different Elks Lodge.

But before you start feeling sorry for these guys roughing it in Elks Lodge parking lots, you should know that their "tour bus" is complete with heated marble floors, satellite TV, full kitchen, comfy beds, plenty of cigars and promotional T-shirts. They'll be pulling into a new lodge every day around noon, setting up chairs and visiting with Frank Fans.

Each night the Elks roll out the red carpet. Steak dinner at the lodge in Newport starts at 6 p.m. and the public's invited. At 7 p.m. Frank will perform his one-man show including his signature song," Home Depot Woman," followed by karaoke.

If you miss this exciting night in Newport, there'll be plenty of opportunities to catch up with the tour and the dynamic duo. Each club's planned its own festivities so check out Frank's page at www.ocregister.com/columns/frank/ for specific details.

The tour bus has an enormous banner with a picture of Frank sporting Elk horns. The OC Register’s pulled out all the stops promoting this tour. Frank will be filing columns from the road. I’ve equipped them with a compact Flip video camera so they can upload footage as well. (Maybe that’s too much information for all of us.)
