Experts informed us that a glass<\/em> of wine can reduce the perceived pain inflicted by our personal trainers.<\/p>\n

This morning we tested the theory\u2026 but accidentally substituted \u201cglass<\/em>\u201d with \u201cbottle<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Result: the workout was completely painless. In fact, we don\u2019t even remember being at the gym.<\/p>\n

The drive to the gym, however, became a full-contact sporting event. I discovered new skills like flashing my lights, driving on the sidewalk, laying on the horn, and aggressively greeting all the neighbors walking their dogs. They were clearly impressed\u2014 I could see them in the rearview mirror enthusiastically waving the middle finger and pointing in the direction we will \u201cdefinitely\u201d not go.<\/p>\n

Good news: we sobered up on the drive home.<\/p>\n

Bad news: then we could feel the workout again.<\/p>\n

When we got home, we had 4.5 seconds to change clothes and head to Seal Beach for lunch with Robin and her retiring boss.\u00a0 We went to CPK (California Pizza Kitchen) where the food is upscale and quite excellent.<\/p>\n

After lunch, we headed home, arriving just as the cleaning staff was exiting.\u00a0 Mary took a short nap, and I worked in the large garden bed, planning to de-weed it over the next two days and rototill it (it’s too large to do by hand anymore).<\/p>\n

We got ready for dinner and the theater.\u00a0 We are off to see “God of Carnage” at South Coast Repertory Theater (adjacent to Seagerstrom).\u00a0 But first, we stopped for dinner with Greg and Carolyn at the Silver Trumpet.<\/p>\n

Today was Greg\u2019s 74th birthday, and his lady brought him a boutonniere\u2014sweet, classy, romantic\u2026 until Greg tried to pin it onto his loose sweater and realized he\u2019d basically been handed a decorative fishhook for a knitted marshmallow.<\/p>\n

The sweater stretched, the flower spun, and Greg did that careful senior-citizen thing where he\u2019s moving slowly but somehow looks more panicked. For a solid minute, it was less \u201cdapper birthday gentleman\u201d and more \u201cman attempting minor surgery on a cardigan.\u201d<\/p>\n

By the time it finally stayed on, the boutonniere was pinned to a completely different zip code, and Greg looked victorious\u2014like he\u2019d just wrestled a tiny floral octopus and won.<\/p>\n

The play was hilarious!\u00a0 We all a) stayed awake, and b) laughed until it hurt.\u00a0 We had seats in row H, near the center, and the acoustics were far better than at Seagerstrom!<\/p>\n

We walked back to our cars after the play and headed home.\u00a0 Precious was in her glory, being parked where everyone could admire her.<\/p>\n

She needs another seventy-five miles on her before she can reapply for a smog certificate!<\/p><\/div>\n

Upon arrival at home, we watched just two episodes of “Suits” before crashing for the night.\u00a0 \u00a0I was able to wake Her Nibs enough so she headed down the hallway to bed!<\/p>\n

Today was a busy but enjoyable day!\u00a0 We are getting excited about Sunday, the day of planting our garden!<\/p>\n
