She was practicing her &#8220;spring flowers. &#8221; Honestly, it was like a floral interpretation of a toddler&#8217;s birthday party\u2014chaotic but full of heart! So off to the shower, she went. Meanwhile, I figured I could channel my inner handyman and attempt to master the ten-foot stepladder. I sanded and wire-brushed the facia board like an art project, then bravely painted a five-foot length. As I launched into another segment,<\/p>\n<p>Mary\u2019s voice then floated in: \u201cGet down!\u201d But I felt so accomplished until Jonathan, our grandson, called in. Suddenly, it wasn&#8217;t just Mary asking nicely. \u201cGet the hell off that ladder, NOW!!\u201d rang through the phone. Great, now I had to come down like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar.<\/p>\n<p>Mary asked me to get down, but I was doing fine. Then I heard a voice say, &#8220;Get the hell off that ladder, NOW!! &#8221;\u00a0 It was Jonathan, our grandson, who just happened to call, and Mary leaked what I was doing. Needless to say, I got down. I dashed to the He Shed and grabbed red bark mulch I bought last week at an unbelievable price\u2014four bags for five bucks! You\u2019d think I was auditioning for a gardening competition. It took one hour, but I was a seed-extracting machine. I was on a mission! Finally, after wrestling with those stubborn little fruits, we were ready to put them into the crumble. Mary worked her magic with dark cane sugar and other \u201csecret\u201d ingredients, and soon, that pan was headed for the oven. The smell that wafted through the house could probably lure a neighborhood dog in a heartbeat! Then, I removed the sheath that covered the seeds, and they were ready to go!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_87706\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87706\" class=\"wp-image-87706 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-06-009-650x650.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"650\" srcset=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-06-009-650x650.jpg 650w, http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-06-009-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-06-009-768x768.jpg 768w, http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2025-04-06-009.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-87706\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eight cups of these little puppies are needed for the loquat crumble.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Into the pan for a 20-minute cooking session so the juices begin to flow from the meat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-87712\" src=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2025\/04\/pix-1359.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"376\" height=\"462\" srcset=\"http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2025\/04\/pix-1359.jpg 376w, http:\/\/lilesnet.com\/dailydiary\/wp-content\/dailydiary\/uploads\/2025\/04\/pix-1359-122x150.jpg 122w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 376px) 100vw, 376px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When this is ready, Mary will have made the crumble with dark cane sugar, some flour, and other &#8220;secret&#8221; ingredients. We pour the loquats into a backing pan and pour the crumble on top of that. We air-fried three chicken breasts in a spice mixture. The air fryer took 20 minutes to complete the job. The spiced chicken was pretty good, and Mary&#8217;s salad was outstanding.<\/p>\n<p>We took some chicken and dessert to Jeff and visited him for a while before returning home.
