Truer words have never been spoken!<\/p><\/div>\n

It was 6:43 a.m., and I was making coffee for the lady of the house when suddenly the power went out.\u00a0 This was not good, especially since we were hosting a party.\u00a0 After some research using our iPhones, we discovered that Edison had turned off the power due to high winds.\u00a0 According to their website, the power would remain off until 3:00 p.m. on October 31st.<\/p>\n

Well, we never give up, so Mary went and made her famous vegetable man, which everyone enjoys.\u00a0 I went to Subway and Ralphs.\u00a0 We ordered from Subway on Saturday, so the rather large order was ready to go.<\/p>\n

At Ralphs Market, I got regular ice and dry ice.<\/p>\n

Veggie Man has returned!<\/p><\/div>\n

Pete and Lisa dug right in and thought the selection was good!\u00a0 We had vegetarian, steak,\u00a0 turkey, and chicken and ordered a Super Duper, which had everything on it.\u00a0 \u00a0We even got cookies and bags of chips!\u00a0 We were ready to feed an army!<\/p>\n

Subway sandwiches instead of pizza this year!<\/p><\/div>\n

After completing the Veggie Man, Mary turned her talents to making the eyeball punch she is famous for creating!\u00a0 \u00a0After the ingredients were added, I carefully dropped in a block of dry-ice.<\/p>\n

The dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide<\/em>.\u00a0 A block of dry ice has a surface temperature of -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit (-78.5 degrees C).\u00a0 When it hits the punch, it boils and makes weird sounds!<\/p>\n

The head witch creates a brew.<\/p><\/div>\n

It looked horrible but delicious; there was not much remaining at the end of the afternoon.\u00a0 Lemon-lime soda, blueberry juice, lemon juice, and blueberries were used.\u00a0 The eyeballs were made with litchies and blueberries.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, outside, the pumpkins were being prepared for carving.\u00a0 The tops were removed, and Mary’s mixer blades were attached to Makita power drills.\u00a0 With ease, the pumpkin flesh was removed, leaving thin walls, making it easier to carve.\u00a0 \u00a0We discovered this method several years back!<\/p>\n

They are hollowing out the pumpkins using electric drills!<\/p><\/div>\n

We had no power in the house, but the Makita cordless equipment worked well!\u00a0 \u00a0 I slipped on a pumpkin.\u00a0 It caught me off-gourd.<\/p>\n

Go, Bob, Go!<\/p><\/div>\n

Drew and Linda popped over and joined in all the cavorting.\u00a0 We heard about their travels and shared our upcoming plans for travel.\u00a0 \u00a0Before they departed, we gave them four pumpkins.<\/p>\n

We asked Zack and Joe to join us, but Zack was going to the dessert, and Joe’s boys had games all weekend.\u00a0 We missed them.\u00a0 Irene was too tired after last night and Brenda was still under the weather.<\/p>\n

We had visitors!<\/p><\/div>\n

The pumpkins were starting to take shape!\u00a0 With candles, they look amazing.<\/p>\n

Did You Know? <\/b>The original Jack-o’-lanterns were made with turnips and potatoes by the Irish. In England, they used large beets and lit them with embers to ward off evil spirits. Irish immigrants brought their customs to America but found that pumpkins were much easier to carve.<\/div>\n

The carving is done!<\/p><\/div>\n

They were lined up and carefully examined, but we couldn’t figure out who did which one.\u00a0 Eventually, we gave up and asked the artists to stand behind their creations.<\/p>\n

Now we know!\u00a0 There was some pretty creative decorating\/carving going on!<\/p>\n

Now we know!\u00a0 Which is the person, and which is the pumpkin?<\/p><\/div>\n

The power was out, so I requested assistance from some kids and grandkids to help me set up extension cords to connect the 8KW generator I keep in the garage.\u00a0 Within a few minutes, we restored power to the refrigerators and freezers.<\/p>\n

If these power outages keep going, we will see a Generac 24KW generator in the future.<\/p>\n

Our neighbor came by and asked for help opening their garage door.\u00a0 I tried using the pull cord release, but it wouldn’t budge.\u00a0 Then it occurred to me to try using electricity to power the door opener.\u00a0 So, we ran a 100-foot line from the generator to their garage, and with the power on, the garage door opened within two minutes.<\/p>\n

Everyone departed about 5:00 p.m., so Mary and I decided to have a glass of wine and recant the day.\u00a0 Poof, ten minutes later, there was power again.\u00a0 I did not pull the extension cords as the power may go off again if the wind picks up.<\/p>\n
