We have been together every single day for three years, and it only gets better! We simply enjoy each other’s company which makes for an amazing marriage.<\/p>\n

The morning begins with a toe-warming activity.\u00a0 Scout must be careful as he sometimes visits and doesn’t realize his tail lands in the fire pit.<\/p>\n

We went harvesting and picked a mess of peas.\u00a0 Some are a bit overripe, so we will shell them and cook them as green peas instead of cooking them in the shell.<\/p>\n

The beans are in overdrive, as we have to pick them every few days!\u00a0 This morning, two of us were spotting and clipping the little guys.\u00a0 We delivered them to our neighbors later in the day; the reports were excellent.<\/p>\n
Why do peas dislike noisy eaters? Because they want peas and quiet.<\/p>\n

Mary removes the onions from the drying rack, trims them, and we store them in a net bag in the He Shed; they will last quite a while!<\/p>\n
While they’re curing, onions like it warm (75\u00b0F to 80\u00b0F) but breezy.\u00a0 The most important part of curing is giving them enough shade and having plenty of air circulation around the bulbs.\u00a0 Because of this, it’s best to lay them out without crowding them rather than heaping all your onions into a basket.\u00a0 We use part of a stainless-steel self we had remaining from building the She Shed.<\/p>\n

The Scarlet Runner Beans have a magnificent blossom in the green garden.<\/p>\n
Did You Know? Scarlet runner beans, botanically classified as part of Phaseolus coccineus, are open-pollinated runner beans and members of the legume family, Fabaceae. It is the one species in this genus that is grown both as a vegetable food plant for its edible pods (green beans) and seeds (fresh or dried beans) and\/or as an ornamental plant for appreciation of its showy flowers. Flowers (in addition to salads) and young leaves (pot herb) are also edible. Another common name is butter bean, which, however, can also refer to the lima bean, a different species. It is grown both as a food plant and an ornamental plant.<\/p>\n
The plant occurs wild from Mexico to Panama and Central America. Other popular common names of the plant are Runner Bean, Scarlet Runner Bean, Scarlet Conqueror, Fire Bean, Mammoth, Red Giant, Dutch runner bean, Case knife bean, seven-year bean, Scarlet runner, Red flowered runner bean, Red flowered vegetable bean, Perennial bean, Dutch Case-Knife Bean, multiflora bean and butter bean. Runner beans grow well with carrots, cauliflowers, cucumbers, cabbage, leek, and celeriac.<\/p>\n
They are inhibited by alliums and fennel growing nearby. Genus name comes from the Greek word for fava beans or an ancient Greek one for a species of Vigna. Specific epithet means scarlet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
