Today we are adding to the garden.\u00a0 We wanted some fruit trees and found them at H&H Nursery in Long Beach.\u00a0 We took the van, and with Colleen’s help, we brought home three beauties.<\/p>\n

Before we left, I tried on my new coat for Valentine’s Day!\u00a0 I can wear it as a tux jacket or regularlar suit\/sports coat with black pants.<\/p>\n

I must say I looked dashing!<\/p><\/div>\n

Multi-grafting for a variety of fruit is a creative way to produce several fruits on the same tree.\u00a0 These are sometimes referred to as “fruit cocktail” trees.\u00a0 We got two stone fruit trees which were peach, nectarine, pear, and Santa Rosa plum\u00a0 We also picked up a 4-1 apple tree with a Dorset, Fuji, Ana, and Golden grafted onto the same tree trunk.<\/p>\n

We just did stone fruit this time; perhaps citrus later on!<\/p><\/div>\n

Colleen pushed the cart as it was getting heavy, and we found some other goodies we needed for the garden.\u00a0 We carefully put them into the van for a ride to the Elks and then home.<\/p>\n

The best way to garden is to put on a wide-brimmed straw hat and some old clothes.\u00a0 And with a hoe in one hand and a cold drink in the other, tell somebody else where to dig.<\/p>\n

I did let Colleen push the cart!\u00a0 Hard work doesn’t harm anyone, but I do not want to take any chances.<\/p>\n

Colleen hauled the loot!<\/p><\/div>\n

I examined the trees closely and talked to the lady who runs the place; she gave me some hints about how to place them in the yard.<\/p>\n

Mary told Colleen, “Why are husbands like lawnmowers?\u00a0 They are difficult to get started, emit foul smells, and don’t work half the time.”\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Paying the bill (Mary beat me to it)<\/p><\/div>\n

We were there for quite a while, and Mary was involved with every purchase.\u00a0 We have a 40-minute ride to the Elks, so nature called.\u00a0 Colleen took the picture; I am innocent (for once).<\/p>\n

What do a missile silo and an Alaskan outhouse have in common?\u00a0 They both contain IC BMs.<\/h3>\n

You gotta do what you have to doo doo!<\/p><\/div>\n

The plants are loaded, including a new blueberry bush, some additional veggies, and some flowers.<\/p>\n

It was “Girls’ Night Out,” so the old trusty van was ready to go.\u00a0 We arrived at 11:45 AM, and our seats were ready.\u00a0 The lobby was decorated for Valentine’s Day.<\/p>\n

Elks is ready for Valentine’s Day.<\/p><\/div>\n

Colleen knows the entire gang, and they are always excited when she shows up; they have someone new to talk to.\u00a0 I overheard Colleen ask Bob, “What’s the difference between an outlaw and an in-law?\u00a0 Outlaws are wanted.”<\/p>\n

Bob and Colleen hit it off.<\/p><\/div>\n

We did our typical thing; show arrows at each other (in jest) and laughed and giggled through lunch.\u00a0 Bob did NOT wear his motorcycle shirt, but I pulled up a copy of it, and Bob nearly went crazy.\u00a0 Mary and I ordered one for him also, and it is coming to our home, so that we will give it to him next week.<\/p>\n

The perfect gift for old motorcycle riders<\/p><\/div>\n

They both still ride motorcycles when the weather is good.<\/p>\n

The banter is priceless.<\/p><\/div>\n

Meanwhile, on the other side of the table, Iris, Will, and I are cavorting and making arrangements for this weekend’s dancing activities.<\/p>\n

Hi Iris!<\/p><\/div>\n

Ronnie popped by to visit.\u00a0 He will be DJ’ing, so the music will be super for dancing.<\/p>\n

\"\"

Ronnie stopped by!<\/p><\/div>\n

We went home at about 2:00 PM and unloaded the trees, taking them to their future homes in the backyard.\u00a0 Two trees will be put closer to the house, and the Santa Rosa Plum will be in the garden area.<\/p>\n

Robin came by after work and visited.\u00a0 The three girls seem to be bolted at the hip!\u00a0 We decided to go to Aces Bar and Grill for dinner, which is always fun.\u00a0 The owner greeted us and was happy since we seemed to draw in people who return (the secret is we hijack the jukebox and play the 40s-60s music at a lower volume and most bars).<\/p>\n

We stopped at Ace’s for dinner with Colleen and Robin<\/p><\/div>\n

Mary and I enjoy the place and have met many friendly folks with families there.<\/p>\n

Just us!<\/p><\/div>\n

We chowed down on salads and jalapeno poppers, and I went for the steak!\u00a0 We complete plans for the family get-together on Sunday at noon.\u00a0 It is a Pierogi event with Bob being the head cook!\u00a0 Our son Joe and grandson\u00a0 Zack and their families will be joining us.<\/p>\n
