Fact: A narwhal’s tusk reveals its past living conditions.\u00a0 <\/strong>Much like the rings of a tree can tell you its age and provide clues about the life it has lived, so too does the long tusk of the narwhal.\u00a0 Recent research led by a bioscience professor at Denmark’s Aarhus University has shown that this peculiar arctic whale adds a layer to its distinctive tusk each year.\u00a0 And not only do these layers offer insight into the age of the narwhal (they’ve been known to live up to 50 years) but the conditions in which they lived\u2014such as level of pollution, temperature levels, and even what their diet consisted of.\u00a0 You are what you eat!<\/em><\/p>\n

Dang, we thought retirement would be a time to relax, but no, it’s time to speed up!<\/p>\n

We popped out of bed at 6:00 AM because we had to go to our gym class.\u00a0 We are done with physical therapy, and the place we went offers a $100\/month gymnasium complete with seasoned trainers.\u00a0 We go two hours\/week (it could be more) and stay for a good hour working out on several different machines.\u00a0 It feels good to put ourselves into this program at our tender ages.<\/p>\n

When I went to sign up, they offered me free membership for life if I posed for a ‘don’t let this happen to you’<\/em> poster.<\/p>\n

When Mary got on the warm-up bike, I was fearful that at the speed she was going, it could come off the floor, crash through the wall, and head down Tustin Avenue with three police cars chasing her!<\/p>\n

The rubber from the brakes sent a cloud of toxic fumes into the air.<\/p><\/div>\n

We escaped with our lives at9:30 AM feeling completely exhausted.<\/p>\n

Next stop, Moneybags.\u00a0 I had my semi-annual update meeting with Marshall, my finance wizard.\u00a0 His office is in Laguna, and he wanted us to come down and have lunch.\u00a0 We could not make lunch with Marshall today as we have “Girl’s Night Out” at noon.<\/p>\n

I was kind of worried when he started by saying.\u00a0 “Which would you like to hear first?” “The bad news,” says I, wanting to get it over with.\u00a0 “All your money will be gone in 24 hours.” “Oh my gosh,” I responded, followed by “So what’s the worse news then?” Marshall said, “I should have made this call yesterday.”<\/p>\n

Mary knows him from Dancing Under The Stars, so she went with me.\u00a0 We got an update on all the investments and got his forecast of things to come.\u00a0 In spite of the war going on, he feels pretty bullish that we will again by north of 10% for the year!<\/p>\n

OK, now the day gets serious.\u00a0 We are off to the Elks for our weekly get-together.<\/p>\n

So why is George laughing?\u00a0 I told him about the book Iris gave me about sciatica, and then when Robin looked at it, she was shocked.\u00a0 There is a chapter in the back about what to do if you feel amorous and have sciatica, complete with stick-figure pictures.\u00a0 Robin said, “Paul-Mary, there is porno in the book!”<\/p>\n

I plan to tease Iris next time she comes to the Elks for lunch; we always sit together.\u00a0 George now has his line to say to Iris, “Iris, do you have any more books like that?'”<\/p>\n

We had ten here today, a light day considering.<\/p>\n

The gang was here and only quiet when food was in front of them.<\/p><\/div>\n

Dr. Mary was so fast on the exercise machines she grew ears like a bunny.\u00a0 I mentioned to Mary, “If it weren’t for the fact that the TV set and the refrigerator are so far apart, some of us wouldn’t get any exercise at all.”<\/p>\n

You know,”Pushing fifty is exercise enough.”<\/p>\n

By 1:45 PM, we were full and headed home.\u00a0 We brought a rack of ribs to our neighbor Jeff.\u00a0 We left so fast this morning, and Scout did not get his regular breakfast, so we fixed him a special lunch.<\/p>\n

We did not find a single elephant in the yard or house when we returned home!\u00a0 Good boy, Scout!<\/p><\/div>\n

At 3:00 PM, I had an appointment with the Tele-Doctor.<\/p>\n

I had been having a cough, it sounded like pneumonia, but I had no temperature and felt great.\u00a0 It was my turn to get my famous once-every-three-years cold.\u00a0 I called the doctor, and because it was COVID-like symptoms, I had to see him over the phone.\u00a0 He looked up my history and knew immediately I needed some steroids, an antibiotic, and a breather should it get worse.<\/p>\n

Look carefully, I saw the ocean with some islands in the sky! Did you?<\/p><\/div>\n

We waited a while and then off to CVS to pick up the prescriptions.\u00a0 \u00a0On the way home, MAry suggested an In-N-Out pit stop.\u00a0 We got our double cheese-burgers and three, count them three, doggy-burgers!\u00a0 His little burgers make up for not having breakfast this morning.<\/p>\n

We had our burgers, and I took the meds.\u00a0 We talked for a while before heading to the office to check email.<\/p>\n

I was tired, and the cough was driving me xraz=y so we hit the sack about 8:00 PM and watched “Battleship” Summary: Battleship is a 2012 American military science fiction action film based on the board game of the same name.\u00a0 The film was directed by Peter Berg and starred Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd, Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, Tadanobu Asano, and Liam Neeson.\u00a0 Filming took place in Hawaii and on USS Missouri.\u00a0 In the film, the crews of a small group of warships are forced to battle against a naval fleet of extraterrestrial origin to thwart their destructive goals.<\/p>\n
