Gardening: Man’s effort to improve his lot.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

OK, here it is: I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon. I’ll let you know.<\/p>\n

After last night’s exhibition of fine dancing, we were tired, and our eyes didn’t open until 8:30 AM.\u00a0 Perhaps it was because the winds were so strong it kept waking us up?\u00a0 I reminded Mary of the old law of non-smokers, “The cigarette smoke always drifts in the direction of the non-smoker regardless of the direction of the breeze.”<\/p>\n

We had to inspect the yard after the howling winds we had last night!<\/p><\/div>\n

We checked the last of our veggies, and surprisingly enough, we still have some.\u00a0 The okra was doing well and will get used this week.\u00a0 One of the most exciting facts about okra is that its seeds can be a substitute for coffee.<\/p>\n

You can dry, grind, and roast the seeds to make a replacement for coffee, and the taste is reportedly not that far off from traditional coffee. Unlike the ones made from actual coffee grounds, the best part is that this okra coffee is caffeine-free and won’t keep you up at night.<\/p>\n

Mary gets creative!<\/p>\n

Cook it with tomatoes or a little vinegar, and the slime goes away!<\/p><\/div>\n

While walking with Mary, I noticed the green beans were dry; we just had too many to eat.\u00a0 So, in my head, I remembered we could harvest the seeds and cook them!\u00a0 Scout volunteered to watch me work harvesting the seeds.<\/p>\n

I told Mary I knew some people that were so cheap, they ate beans to save on bubble bath.<\/p>\n

Scout helped me harvest dried string bean seeds for tonight’s dinner.<\/p><\/div>\n

We needed supplies!\u00a0 Potting soil some small plants for the empty barrels.\u00a0 Off we go to Home Depot with a fly-by at Jan’s to drop off some food.<\/p>\n

Our favorite place to shop!<\/p><\/div>\n

When we got home, I emptied the car, and Mary hit the stove again, preparing tonight’s dinner.\u00a0 The zucchini was delicious, and we did cauliflower while I turned on the BBQ and did a Bubba-Burger.\u00a0 \u00a0I read in the newspaper yesterday a local restaurant was going to try snail burgers but then realized they’re not really fast food.<\/p>\n

I can’t keep this lady out of the kitchen; she loves to cook!<\/p><\/div>\n

I set the table and finished off the burger while Mary brought out the goodies; wow, a feast fit for a kind on a diet!<\/p>\n

While dining, we saw several seagulls flying overhead.\u00a0 I of course had to ask Mary, “Why do seagulls fly over the sea?”\u00a0 She responded with a mommy-look and I knew I was going to be in trouble,\u00a0 I was close to the stairs so I could escape if the answer was not acceptable so I blurted out, ” Because if they flew over the bay they’d be bagels!”<\/p>\n

We had dinner on the patio.<\/p><\/div>\n

The meal was terrific, and we had a fine wine with dinner; two-bi=uck Chuck!\u00a0 We sat outside until a little after sunset and headed inside to clean up and watch a movie.<\/p>\n

At the end of dinner, I asked Mary, “Please find a recipe that contains yeast and shoe polish?\u00a0 She questioned me on my suggestion and I had to respond with, “Every morning you will rise and shine!”<\/p>\n

I cooked up a burger to add protein to the meal.<\/p><\/div>\n

After dancing yesterday and working all day in the yard, I was too pooped to pop, so I crashed.\u00a0 I woke up about 2:00 AM, and the TV was on, so I hit the remote.\u00a0 We have to be up extra early tomorrow as I am taking Mary to work, racing back home to see the tree people, and then getting ready to celebrate Mary’s retirement.<\/p>\n

TOMORROW IS HER LAST DAY OF WORK!!!!!\u00a0 YEAH! YIPPEE! HOO-RAY!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
