We stayed around the house most of the day.\u00a0 Sue make an amazing brunch from the Starlighter’s vegetarian selection from Saturday evening.\u00a0 Amazing how she can add this and that to a fairly bland meal and make it fantastic!<\/p>\n

Paul worked in the garden while Sue did the treadmill.\u00a0 The garden is looking pretty good. The strawberries are beginning to have blossoms and the lettuce is getting ready for harvesting.\u00a0 The broccolini is ready for harvesting.<\/p>\n

Broccolini\u00a0 is a green vegetable similar to broccoli but with smaller florets and longer, thin stalks. Often misidentified as young broccoli, it is a hybrid of broccoli and kai-lan, both cultivar groups of Brassica oleracea. It was originally developed by the Sakata Seed Company of Yokohama, Japan, in 1993 as “aspabroc”.<\/p>\n

The entire vegetable is consumable, including the occasional yellow flower. Common cooking methods include sauteeing, steaming, boiling, and stir frying. Its flavor is sweet, with notes of both broccoli and asparagus,[1] although it is not closely related to the latter. Nutritionally, it is high in vitamin C and contains vitamin A, calcium, folate, and iron.<\/p>\n
